While we are used to no shortage of supernatural characters on The Originals, there are very few human characters that last more than an episode or two. With the announcement of different vampires coming in after the Mikaelsons, there was also an addition of human detective Will Kinney, played by Jason Dohring. When talking about him, showrunner Julie Plec was excited about having him on board:

"You know what's so funny: I love [‘Veronica Mars’ executive producers] Rob Thomas and Diane Ruggiero, but I never watched ‘Veronica Mars.’ I only knew Jason Dohring because [‘Vampire Diaries’ executive producer] Kevin [Williamson] loved him so much on [the CBS drama] ‘Moonlight.’ And then I realized, he's Logan that everyone talks about from ‘Veronica Mars. I feel like I'm very lucky to have the person that so many people fell in love with in the past decade.”

New Orleans has been a hot spot for crime and death, most of which comes from the supernatural beings that reside there. Plec continues:

"There is a crime that happens in the first episode, and he comes in to investigate it. He's working closely with some of our characters. The question is, how much does he know or not know about what's going on in the supernatural world? And what's going to happen to him as a result of digging too deep?”

When it was first announced that we were getting a human detective on the show, I had speculated that perhaps with Cami trying to distance herself from the Mikaelson family she would possibly develop a relationship with the new detective. However, Julie mentioned who he was getting close to and what his priorities were:

“He does have quite a lot of interaction with Cami (Leah Pipes) and Vincent (Yusuf Gatewood). As of right now, he’s very firmly focused on getting the job done. But of course [that's as of] episode 4; you just never know.”

If he has lasted until episode 4, that is definitely a good sign. Even with sticking his nose where it doesn't belong, if he is able to survive there is possible hope for him to become a series regular.

While there isn't any real verification that Will and Cami will be together, it is nice to know that Cami is separating herself a little from the vampires that have caused her a lot of trouble. But knowing her bond with Klaus, will she be able to stay away from the middle of the action for long?

How long until Will figures out what is really happening in the French Quarter, if he hasn't already?

We'll have to wait until season 3 begins in October to find out.
