Artistic indie-styled video game Life Is Strange rose in a rapid surge of popularity to tell a deeply emotional story that resonated strongly with thousands of fans. Art and cosplay are some of the clearest and most powerful ways fans communicate their love and appreciation for stories and characters that impact their lives in meaningful ways - and it's always amazing to see fans speaking back.
So say hello to a wonderful take on Chloe Price's punk-rock style and compelling determination, along with some dreamlike atmosphere reflecting the game's more surreal moments. Saved these two for last, because rebel-girl smoking aside, they're definitely my favorites. I love the natural poses and lighting, but these are just so soft and dreamlike, reflecting the, ah, stranger elements of the game and twists the plot takes. (That, and I love the editing, the use of the butterfly motif and color-symbolism scheme. It's all significant and makes me have... painful feelings in the chest area. Rare that a cosplay shoot can do that, and worth mentioning.)

The Pearl by John Steinbeck
‘The Pearl’ is a well-known by under-read classic and, as a teacher, many of my students have absolutely loved it. Not just because it is short, but because it presents a storyline that is interesting and corrupting. Easy to read and easier to analyse, ‘The Pearl’ is one of Steinbeck’s hardest hitting classics with an underlying message about protecting what is actually important. By the end of the book, the reader is left defeated and believing in the wrong thing. The idealism around this book is incredible and it is so dark too. For a long while you are supporting the wrong people, thinking in the wrong way and the whole story becomes one long act of misdirection by Steinbeck to show in a ‘Monkey’s Paw’ fashion why we should never chase wealth and status.

Book Review: "Alchemy" by Rory Sutherland
The opposite of a good idea can be a good idea "Alchemy" by Rory Sutherland This book was more of a random pick-up and I know what you're going to say to me: Why are you all of a sudden reading so many nonfiction books? Well, it was my New Years' Resolution, I just didn't start acting on it until I found something I liked. Some of them have been really difficult to read because it made me realise I should have paid attention in biology at school, some of them are less difficult but more perplexing because they make me realise I've literally been ruining my own life and some of them, like Alchemy, have really interested me for some weird or unknown reason. And that's what this book is all about: weird and unknown reasons.
