Lion King vs Frozen

My Fight with an 8-Year-Old...

I am 22 years old, born in 1995 right in the prime of The Lion King. As a kid this movie made you feel something, to this day it still does. This was THE animated Disney movie for my childhood, and still is really in my opinion. The iconic songs, the great plot line, all the feels that it gave you. It truly is an amazing animated film.

Then 2013 hit... and all hell broke loose with the release of Frozen. Kids everywhere were amazed by the movie, saying how it was amazing and the best movie ever... It was everywhere this movie, from dolls, to posters, everywhere you looked it was Frozen this or Frozen that. It was enough to give any normal person, without a child, a massive headache.

Kids everywhere were saying that this is the best animated movie of all time. Every time I would respond saying, no, Lion King is. They would disagree but when I asked if they had ever seen it, the answer was no. I, personally, have seen both movies and it is clear that Lion King is seriously better.

To start can we just take in the opening scene of the Lion King? If the Circle of Life does not move you as a person then there is something wrong with you... like seriously though, it is so cute and just puts you in a good mood.

The soundtrack in general from the Lion King is just better. I mean the best songs from Frozen were, "Do You Want to Build a Snowman," "Let It Go" (duh) and the song that Olaf sung. In Lion King you have the "Circle of Life" which is iconic, "Just Can't Wait to Be King," "Hakuna Matata," "Be Prepared" and "Can You Feel the Love Tonight". You cannot even think of the other songs from Frozen.

Also, Lion King was made by Disney's "B Team" as their "A Team" was busy working on Pocahontas, which was expected to better (but obviously didn't because of how awesome the Lion King was). Up until Frozen it was the most popular Disney movie out there, and it was not made by the best group available. Frozen was created with the A team, it was an all hands on deck production hence why it was made in 17 months.

Let's now consider the technology at the animators disposal. Technology has drastically changed from 1994 to 2013. I mean to produce a film in 17 months back in 1994 was unheard of! In fact, it took 2 years for the producers of TheLion King to create the wildebeest scene alone. Imagine the rest of the movie.

Finally put, TheLion King's storyline compared to Frozen is so much better. Frozen was claimed to be unique but it is really a remake of The Lion King if you think about it. How you may ask?

Think of Simba as Elsa and Nala as Anna/Kristoff. Think of Timon and Pumbaa as Olaf. Mufasa as the girl's parents, and Scar as Hans. Now to break down the story. In both cases, the elders die in a heartbreaking fashion (Mufasa's death being the more traumatic of course). The next in line for the crown leaves and the rest of the town goes into a very dark period. The friend/family of that person then ends up finding that person and bringing them back. Along the way one of the main characters meets a hilarious/idiotic outcast who helps teach them a special meaning to life. Then the next in line returns home to battle the villain who has taken over the land, just to be placed in a difficult situation regarding the truth. In the end the good guys win and bad guys lose.

I will say that Frozen was a good movie, namely because it is The Lion King made with a focus on female characters instead of male!
