'Mary Poppins Returns' Is It Worth The Watch?

I know everyone got filled with excitement when they first saw the trailer for Mary Poppins Returns pop up on their phone or TVs. I know I did just because I remember as a little girl watching the 1964 version on my Dora television and also the 2013 version Saving Mr. Banks. I think everyone enjoyed those two movies throughout their childhood and maybe through their adulthood mainly because we all had vivid imaginations as kids and wanted our own Mary Poppins. So when the trailer for Mary Poppins Returns was released I know some people were skeptical about the new feature to the brand.

Many of the reboots or add-ons to our favorite movies as children recently have all been duds. Whether it be because a director had a certain angle they wanted to achieve or just the plain old casting screw ups. But this one was different. Although I was one of the skeptics I was quickly drawn into the movie with the way the characters were introduced. The casting was spot on in this movie. Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins was wonderful. Also with the feisty Ms. Anabel Banks played by Pixie Davies, the one who means business Mr. John Banks played by Nathanael Saleh, and Mr. Georgie Banks the one who just wants to have fun. All the actors did incredible justice to their parts and adding a few characters from the original movie was a great choice as well. The children were a great start to the movie and showing how they interacted with their fellow housemates drew in the theatre even more with laughs and giggles.

As far as the storyline, in my opinion, it was well-played. Everything that was shown later had a meaning to the storyline. It wasn't one of those movies that would pop a wand in the middle of a scene and expect you to know what it is. There was an equal amount of singing and dialogue to balance the movie out. And the animations and CGI in this movie were awesome. Coming from me, that's a huge compliment! I'm that viewer who would easily stop watching a movie or TV show that has bad special effects since it makes the movie feel not worth it to me for some reason. But this one got a huge thumbs up from me.

Overall, this movie would be a great movie to take your children to or just go on your own. There is no need for you watch any of the other movies at all before coming to see this one. But I will recommend going at a time that you know your movie theatre will not be packed with children. Mine was and at different parts in the movie, I wasn't able to hear what they were saying because the kids in the theatre weren't quite. Even if your theatre is, it'll still be worth the watch in the end. It’s a great movie that opens up a window into your childhood and imagination.

My rating for this would be a strong 10/10 taking into account the singing, directing, and acting! So if you’re free this week, go to your local theater pick out some Swedish Fish, a water, and popcorn and enjoy the fun filled movie!
