Masters of Evil coming to the MCU?

At least that's how I see it... Some of this has come out of my aggravation from other empty views on what Phase 4 is bringing and some of this is ramblings from another post.

With the Infinity Gauntlet storyline in full swing and the Civil War storyline coming soon(ish) to a theater near you, my mind has been twirling with the different directions that Marvel could take as these stories wrap up. As much as I'd love to see the Dark Avengers make their way to the silver screen, without the rights to Norman Osborn, I just don't see it happening; however, The Masters of Evil have been a ragtag team of villains pestering the Avengers for as long as the heroes have been around and with all of the villains around in the MCU (still alive and kicking, might I add), it would make sense that something would bring the Avengers back together after the Civil War and once one, a Mad Titan, can't take them down, villains may indeed come together--making a team of their own.

The Masters of Evil is one of the largest and longest-running alliances of super-villains in history, led by assorted criminal masterminds and comprised of an ever-changing membership ranging from minor thugs to major menaces. In many ways, they are the criminal equivalent of the Avengers, the Masters' first and most frequent foes.

We already have a plethora of villains that could take up the mantle of leading this crew and, while I have my own ideas of who it will be, I'll let you scan the roster to make up your own mind:

Loki, Red Skull (yeah, he's not dead...), Wolfgang Von Strucker, Crossbones, Abomination, Yellowjacket (coming with the release of Ant-man), The Mandarin (the real one), The Leader, Batroc, Justin Hammer, General "Thunderbolt" Ross (a.k.a. The Red Hulk), HYDRA in all of it's many components, not to mention Deathlok, Absorbing Man, Lorelei and the other villains in Agents of SHIELD.

This isn't even considering that by the time both the Civil War and Infinity Gauntlet storylines are done we'll easily have at least twice as many villains with the continued addition of movies and TV shows (all the Netflix series' coming... come on!).

And here are the leaders from different incarnations in the comics (in chronological order):

  • Baron Zemo
  • Ultron-5
  • Egghead
  • Baron Zemo
  • Doctor Octopus
  • Baron Zemo
  • Crimson Cowl
  • Max Fury w/ Baron Zemo
  • Lightmaster

Not to mention Marvel Adventures and the House of M (with Hood leading). So, other than Baron Zemo seemingly trying to spearhead nearly every time (and Doc Oc withstanding, for contractual purposes), we have a variety of villains that could easily lead the Masters of Evil into Phase 4 (to reiterate, many of which are in the MCU or will be). Personally, I would go with a mix of the Shadow Council (seeing Fury's brother in the MCU making a stand against him would be grand) and House of M. Ultron could even initiate this in Age of Ultron and have it slowly build through Infinity War/Civil War.

The big question: what do you think? Possible for what's to come or not?
