Movie Review: 'Aladdin'

A must watch—more than once

Guess who is going to watch this movie again? Me! Why? Well, it was amazing! There are somethings I would've loved to be added in this Live version of Aladdin, but honestly that is just me being picky (We will get to those in a minute).

My best friend and I had planned to watch Aladdin, The Lion King, and the fourth installment of Toy Story. So, this is the first one on our summer list, and it was a great way to start the summer.

Aladdin is the story of a thief named Aladdin (Mena Massoud) who falls for the Princess Jasmine (Naomi Scott) during their encounter in the market. Once Aladdin realizes who she is, he makes it his mission to get to know her even more. An advisor of The Sultan named Jafar (Marwan Kenzari) realizes who Aladdin is, and has him get a magical lamp that is in a cave, and in return will make sure he is worthy enough for the princess. Aladdin does what is demanded, but during the journey we meet the Genie (Will Smith) who helps Aladdin get closer to the Princess, and the power of what being yourself can do... Should I go on? If you have seen the Disney Cartoon version, you will know that to expect. If you have never seen Aladdin, then I won't spoil the story so check it out.

In this installment of Aladdin, Aladdin is not the only one learning about himself, they make Jasmine into a powerful woman figure that I want my daughter to look up to (If I had a daughter). Jasmine shows she can be heard, and that what she says matters. As mentioned before, this movie is teaching lessons left and right, but one thing I can say it definitely delivered, is a good time. I could not stop laughing with the Genie. One thing we should clear out: there will never be a Genie like Robin Williams, I mean he made THE GENIE; but Will Smith has found a way to give a beautiful tribute to Robin, and make the genie his own. I am glad they chose Will to play this beautiful character.

As you can imagine this movie will have a high rating, because of everything that has been mentioned before; but there were some things I would have liked. One thing I would have liked is the music to be clear. What do I mean about that? There were some songs where I was unsure what was being said. Luckily the cinematography was great, and I had no issues with the CGI in the movie; but the music maybe a little clearness would have been great. I would have love to see Jafar, and the snake work a little more, but honestly those are the only two things I found that bother me. As you can tell that is nothing compared to the positives I have for this movie.

If you are trying to decide to watch Aladdin, or are thinking it will ruin your childhood memories of the cartoon version, do not fear. Aladdin is a must watch, and it will only better the memories you hold so dear. I want to watch it again; I love the cast and the work they did, it makes me want to have a monkey, tiger, and even a parrot. I can honestly say I will buy the blue-ray when it comes out, and because of all of that I am giving Aladdin five out of five stars. If you have seen Aladdin what where your thoughts? If you have not seen it, what are you waiting for? Oh and did I mention I want a monkey? Enjoy!
