My Review of 'Avengers: Endgame'

The conclusion to an epic tale... How did it turn out?

As you've all probably heard Avengers: Endgame is probably the biggest movie ever. This movie was anticipated to become a high grossing movie regardless if it was good or bad, but they don't often make very bad Marvel movies. So I would have to say that the odds were that if you go to the movie you're going to get exactly what you were looking for.

Now going into this movie I have to admit I had some doubts. If you've read my review of Avengers: Infinity War, I guess you're lucky because for some reason the review has been removed by administrators. It was a negative review of the movie. I didn't like it because as a movie it didn't seem to have much substance. It contained various transitions scenes to place us to the next big fight sequence. Also it had a weird Transformers animated movie feel for me.

So when this movie came out I didn't know what I was going to get into. The trailers looked promising but I've been burned by trailers before. Certainly the hype was up there. I didn't want to get my expectations too high though.

The first week of the movie came and went. Unfortunately, I couldn't get a ticket because the theaters were sold out all across the city. That shows promise for a great movie right? Not really, I remember when the Star Wars prequels came out. They were packed to the gills for the first two weeks as well.

Friends and reviewers were starting to chime in and they were telling me that it was a great movie. People couldn't stop talking about how great this movie was and yet I didn't get any spoilers which was a bit of a shock. I'm actually really surprised how they kept spoilers under wraps for this movie for so long. This is the second week and spoilers are starting to leak and the hype is starting to wear off.

Luckily for me that means that there are decent seats open at the theaters. I finally got my chance to see the movie not once, but twice. In both instances I got to see them in 3D.

Now for the biggest issue that a lot of people have with the movie. It's three hours long. Now that's a really long time and I'm really surprised that they would make a child friendly movie, such as this, last for three hours. I guess it's really focused on adults who are mentally children so it's not so bad. Three hours surprisingly flew by pretty fast.

I know a lot of people have issues with the pacing of the movie. However, I thought it was done pretty nicely. They set the tone for what's to come and I thought that the tone needed to be slower in the beginning to explain what was about to take place. There's a lot of explaining to do in this movie because it can get terribly complicated if the audience doesn't understand the plot device of the movie.

As everyone already knows this closes a large chapter of the Marvel Universe. It gives us, as the audience, closure for many of the story arcs that have been going on for the past 11 years. Some of the endings are quite sad, but necessary. There were a few audience members within the theater that were actually crying.

There were at the edge of your seat moments, especially with the action. They paced the action sequences really well. I knew exactly what was going on with each of the characters and what the significance of that scene was for the movie. This is a nice contrast to the action movies where it'll jump from scene to scene in dark action.

Overall, I had a great time and it was good enough for me to watch it all over again despite the run time of three hours! It's a hell of a ride and a great ending to an 11 year epic story. I will have to give Avengers: Endgame a nine out of ten. I think anyone that's been a fan of the Marvel series owes it to themselves to watch this movie for a number of reasons—most importantly, to conclude the major Infinity War saga.
