The ten shows I plan on watching in the summer anime season.

'Is It Wrong That I Want To Meet You in a Dungeon' Season 2

Studio - J.C. Staff (One Punch Man, Shokugeki no Soma)

Based On - Light novel - Yasuda Suzuhito (art), Omari Fujino (story)

I was a fan of the first season of Danmachi (yes I am going to call it Danmachi instead of the ridiculously long light novel title), and considering it ended quite abruptly with little to no resolutions to the main story threats, I have been waiting for a second season for a while. Now that we actually are getting season two, there was no way that I was going to skip out on it. The world that this anime depicted was rich in its mythology, and the way characters grow is tangible, much like leveling up in a game. I am looking forward to re-entering this world.

'Astra Lost in Space'

Studio - Lerche (Classroom of the Elite)

Based On - Manga - Shinohara Kenta

Director - Andou Masaomi (School-Live!)

Literally the plot from Lost in Space, and the only difference is that it is, surprisingly, HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. Anyway, the fact that it is being produced by Lerche lets me know that chances are, even if the narrative ends up being mediocre, I would be greeted by a good-looking anime. This is the main reason why I am watching at least a couple of the episodes.

'To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts'

Studio - MAPPA (Dororo, Kakegurui)

Based On - Manga - Maybe

Director - Shishido Jun (Banana Fish, Death Parade, episode director)

Music - Ike Yoshihiro (Dororo, B: The Beginning)

Civil war, monsters, magic, MAPPA, Shishido Jun, and Ike Yoshihiro. This is a combination that I was not going to miss out on. This premise has the feel of Fairy Gone from the season of anime that has just passed, for better or for worse. It is made by MAPPA, which is a studio that cranks out quality in one form or another, whether it be in terms of animation, narrative, music or a combination of the three. And coming off of Dororo, I am excited to see what they do next.

'Given'

Studio - Lerche

Based On - Manga - Kizu Natsuki

Director - Yamaguchi Hikaru (second directorial work, previous work on Escho Chron OVA)

I have zero expectations for this show, and much like Astra Lost in Space, this is one that I am watching because of studio Lerche. The premise seems interesting enough. A guy loses interest in playing guitar and basketball, however his passion is reignited as a result of fixing another guy's guitar. From what I read of the synopsis, there will be copious amounts of music, and I sense yaoi is afoot. As long as it is a story that keeps me interested, I’ll keep watching. I am hesitant, because this is the director's second credit in anime that I could find, however, I will remain optimistic.

'Naka no Hito Genome'

Studio - Silver Link (Ao-Chan Can’t Study, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia)

Based On - Web Manga - Osara

Director - Oonuma Shin (Dusk Maiden of Amnesia)

The premise for this show reminds me of Danganronpa (the first season anime), where kids are kidnapped and are forced to play a game that is set upon them by a supernatural being. What drew me to it is the fact that it is done by Silver Link studios and is directed by Oonuma Shin, who also directed one of my favourite shows, Dusk Maiden of Amnesia.

'Fire Force'

Studio - David Production (Cells at Work, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure)

Based On - Manga - Ookubo Atsushi (Soul Eater)

Director - Yase Yuki (Durarara!! - episode director)

What truly excites me about this show is the fact that the manga is written by Ookubo Atsushi, who also wrote the fantastic Soul Eater manga. Then comes the premise of a phenomenon of humans spontaneously combusting to the point that the generation to follow can control fire and become firefighters in order to help "put out the fires." The fact that David Productions is working on the show with one of the episode directors of Durarara!! is a massive bonus to get excited about.

'Dr. Stone'

Studio - TMS Entertainment - (ReLIFE, Megalo Box)

Based On - Manga - Baichi (Art), Inagaki Riichiro (story)

Music - Tatsuya Katou (Free!, Mirai Nikki), Hiroaki Tsutsumi (Ao Haru Ride, Orange)

I am interested in this show primarily because of the positive buzz that has been surrounding the manga in Shonen Jump, and additionally, the premise is interesting. All of humanity suddenly turned to stone, and after millennia, people start to break through the shell and re-emerge into the world, starting the world from year zero using basic advancements in science from scratch. Beyond that, looking at the studio that is working on the show, TMS Entertainment has put out a couple of my favourite shows in the past five years, plus the fact that the composer from Mirai Nikki is going to be working on the soundtrack is an exciting prospect, as I loved that soundtrack.

'Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note'

Studio - TROYCA (Aldnoah.Zero, Re: Creators)

Based On - Light novel - Sanda Makoto (story), Sakamoto Mineji (Art)

Director - Katou Makoto (AD - Re:Creators)

Music - Kajiura Yuki (Fate Zero, Pandora Hearts)

This is a show that, in my opinion, has everything going for it. It has an intriguing premise that highlights familial politics, complicated plans that characters plot behind each other’s backs, and the potential to be a heavily psychological narrative, very much in the vein of Death Note or the recent The Promised Neverland as far as character interactions are concerned. It is produced by TROYCA, who has yet to put out a show that looks less than great. Katou Makoto directing also brings up my excitement, however, the clincher is the fact that the fantabulous Kajura Yuki is working on the show. She is arguably one of my favourite composers in media of all time, and her music always makes the show seem better than it actually is. In fact, I would have watched this show solely for the reason that Kajiura Yuki is composing for it.

'Vinland Saga'

Studio - Wit (Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)

Based on - Manga - Yukimura Makoto

Director - Yabuta Shuuhei - (3D Director of Attack on Titan, Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)

Music - Yamada Yutaka - (Tokyo Ghoul)

The first time I heard of this I.P. is when the first trailer for it was released by Studio Wit, and the fact that it has a medieval setting revolving around the Vikings was all I needed to be excited for the show. The synopsis for it seems simple enough; a young boy wants revenge for his murdered father. However, it is the people working on the show that gets me excited. The fact that it is by Studio Wit for starters, who has crunched out high quality animation (even if at times the story is lacking). Yabuta Shuuhei, who has worked alongside Tetsuro Araki for the past six or seven years, taking on directing duties for the first time is exciting, as he helped direct the fantastic 3D segments of the likes of Attack on Titan and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. Finally, the soundtrack is done by Yamada Yutaka, who was a shining light in a wasteland of near total despair that was the Tokyo Ghoul anime.

'How Many Kilograms are the Dumbbells You Lift?'

Studio - Doga Kobo (Himouto! Umaru-Chan)

Based On - Webmanga - MAAM (Art), Sandrovich Yabako (story)

Director - Yamazaki Mitsuo (episode director, Bleach, Durarara!!)

Attractive girls lifting weights in a gym...

Pretty self-explanatory really.
