Stranger Things Star David Harbour as Hellboy.

The movie industry is Booming lately with the once "unbeatable" box office record of James Cameron's Avatar ($760,507,625 made worldwide in box-office sales) being recently shattered in 2015 with the release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens which took in $936,662,225 worldwide in box office sales. With so much success with movies now a days, it means there is tons to look forward to every year. Here are the most anticipated upcoming films of 2018/2019.

'The Nun' - September 7th, 2018

The Nun Directed by: Corin Hardy. Starring: Taissa Farmiga, Bonnie Aarons, and Demián Bichir.

The Nun serves as a prequel to James Wan's The Conjuring series. James Wan will not be directing this movie, but producing, with Corin Hardy directing the film. For people who have seen the films, the nun named Valak is by far one of the most haunting characters in the series. She first appears in The Conjuring 2 during a seance to determine whether or not a demonic presence was truly responsible for Ronald DeFeo Jr murdering his family. Valak is later revealed as the main antagonist of the film in a set of interesting events. Valak appears to be a type of manipulative demon in which she appears in different forms. In the film she appears as a demonic nun before Lorraine Warren and as The Crooked Man before Ed Warren and the Hodgson family. The character, yet interesting, didn't come with a true backstory of any kind. The Nun is a prequel to the entire Conjuring and Annabelle series. It is set in 1952 Romania, and takes place in The Vatican. If you're a fan of horror or The Conjuring and Insidious movies this is a definite must see.

'The Predator' - September 14th, 2018

Directed by: Shane Black. Starring: Olivia Munn, Boyd Holbrook, and Keegan-Michael Key.

The Predator franchise is known for its brutal violence ever since the release of the first film in 1987. With this film, they intend on continuing that with the recently revealed R-rating it received. Though this film won't have Arnold Schwarzenegger in it (lets hope he makes a cameo), there is Boyd Holbrook from Narcos and Olivia Munn in the leading roles. The Predators themselves look awesome especially the giant Ultimate Predator. With the most recent NSFW trailer it appears they are not going go easy on the gore, which is an iconic part of the series that many fans of the series were excited to see was still going to be prevalent in this film. The Predator had to have some major third act reshoots to make the film's ending scarier. Hopefully, this new film becomes a worthy entry in The Predator franchise.

'Venom' - October 5th, 2018

Directed by: Ruben Fleischer. Starring: Tom Hardy, Michelle Williams, and Riz Ahmed.

Everyone wanted Spiderman to join the MCU but it was extremely difficult for Marvel Studios to get the rights back from Sony, who had the rights since 1999 for the first Spiderman film with Tobey Maguire. Marvel had originally wanted to buy back the rights to Spiderman from Sony but it ended on a partnership that they agreed upon. Sony has continued their run with the Spiderman universe with Venom, one of Spiderman's most loved villains. Tom Hardy is set to play the struggling journalist, Eddie Brock, who comes across the alien symbiote and later becomes Venom. In my personal opinion, this movie looks intriguing and more like a psychological thriller than a Marvel movie, which in my opinion is great for Marvel and Sony. It could be a win-win scenario if it turns out to be a good film. The reason I say this is, even though I'm an avid Marvel fan and I've seen every movie in the MCU, its getting extremely repetitive and it feels as if there is no real risk or stakes to the movies. That's why Infinity War was so refreshing to me, because there were actual risks and stakes in that movie. This movie looks a lot different tone wise from your typical Marvel movie. Make sure to check it out.

'Halloween' - October 19th, 2018

Directed by: David Gordon Green. Starring: Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greer, and Virginia Gardner.

The Halloween series is considered by most a classic of the horror genre spawning eight films in original series and two films from the Rob Zombies remake series. Michael Myers is back in this new film. The timeline is by technicality a continuation of the series, but not in the typical way. The film serves as almost a "what if" scenario of sorts. This film will take place 40 years after the first film but is still the second film, the basic concept of this film is that Halloween 2 all the way to Halloween: Resurrection do not exist in this storyline, instead Michael has spent those 40 years in prison. Jamie Lee Curtis returns as an older Laurie Strode who has been preparing for Michael to return ever since she narrowly escaped the events of the first movie. With the disappointment of the Rob Zombie remakes, Halloween fans are anxiously awaiting this film in hopes it will be worth the wait.

'Hellboy' - April 12th, 2019

Directed by: Neil Marshall. Starring: David Harbour, Milla Jovovich, and Daniel Dae Kim.

The long-running comic series created by Mike Mignola has already had two film adaptations: 2004's Hellboy and 2008's Hellboy II: The Golden Army. Though Hellboy actor Ron Perlman was a fan favourite when he was in the role and the films were met by a solid critical response, a third movie was never made with Perlman. Instead of Perlman, David Harbour will be playing The Right Hand of Doom for this film. Harbour is know mainly for his role as Chief of Hawkins Police Jim Hopper in the critically acclaimed series Stranger Things. Habour’s version of the character is very similar in looks to Ron Perlman’s portrayal but there are a few key distinctions between the two. Harbour’s Hellboy has more defined muscles and his eyes are more defined with his hair being differently cut than Perlman's version. Though no clips or teasers have been released yet the photos of the new Hellboy are enough to get excited about. Make sure to check it out if you were a fan of the old series, its a must see.

'Dumbo' - March 29th, 2019

Directed by: Tim Burton. Starring: Colin Farrell, Micheal Keaton, and Danny DeVito.

Disney is back at it again with their live action remakes , this time Tim Burton is at the helm of the remake of 1941's animated classic Dumbo. Tim Burton is an incredibly stylistic director with much critical acclaim and if he was gonna direct one of these remakes it would be this one. As I watched the short teaser for the film, I couldn't help but get chills. It looks like Burton takes more then the story for inspiration in this film. The colours pop like in the cartoon but it still feels quite Burton's style. It looks absolutely incredible to me, and the amazing thing is the teaser was only a bit over a minute and yet left such an impact on me. Colin Farrell stars as Holt and Eva Green as Collette. Some characters made a short appearance in the teaser such as Michael Keaton as Vandemere and Danny Devito as Medici. Dumbo follows the story of a circus elephant born with gigantically large ears. At first, he’s viewed as an outcast or weird, but the other animals and the circus owner himself realize soon enough that those huge ears may be more a gift rather than a curse. I'm excited to see Tim Burton's adaption of the classic.

Untitled Avenger Movie - April 26th, 2019

Directed by: Joe Russo, Anthony Russo. Starring: Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr, and Tom Holland.

After the events of Infinity War, people are extremely anxiously anticipating Avengers 4, the follow up to the shocking ending of the last Avengers should be a huge hit with box office and fans alike.

'John Wick 3: Parabellum'- May 7th, 2019

Directed by: Chad Stahelski. Starring: Keanu Reeves, Halle Berry, and Ian McShane.

Do I really need to write anything here? Didn't think so.

'The Lion King' - July 19th, 2019

Directed by: Jon Favreau. Starring: Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles, and Seth Rogen.

An all-star cast is set to make the live-action/CGI remake of The Lion King with Jon Favreau to direct. I can feel my childhood nostalgia coming back to me as I speak.

'Artemis Fowl'- August 9th, 2019

Directed by: Kenneth Branagh. Starring: Judi Dench, Josh Gad, and Ferdia Shaw.

Director Kenneth Branagh and stars Judi Dench and Josh Gad, who all worked together on Murder on the Orient Express, come together again to make this adaptation of a popular book series about a 12-year-old millionaire and criminal mastermind who kidnaps a fairy in hopes of ransoming her to an evil pixie in exchange for his father. Artemis Fowl is a beloved science fiction/fantasy novel series with eight books in total. Talks of an Artemis Fowl movie adaptation began in the early 2000s and increased once Harry Potter became a cultural phenomenon. Disney has confirmed the start of production on the Artemis Fowl movie. Written by author Eoin Colfer, the Artemis Fowl books are aimed at a younger audience but enjoyed by all ages, quite like the Harry Potter series in that way. The Artemis Fowl series mixes fantasy themes with espionage/spy themes. Ferdia Shaw, a newcomer, has been cast as the title character, along with a lot of newcomer actors in the supporting cast. This is one is a must see if are a sci-fi and/or fantasy fan.

'It: Chapter 2' -September 6th, 2019

Directed by: Andy Muschietti. Starring: Jessica Chastain, James McAvoy, Bill Skarsgård, and Bill Hader.

Pennywise the Clown returns in the second part of Stephen King's It, with an all-star cast taking the roles of the Loser's Club as adults.

'Joker' - October 4th, 2019

Directed by: Todd Phillips. Starring: Joaquin Phoenix, Zazie Beetz, and Robert De Niro.

Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker... enough said.

'The Addams Family'- October 11th, 2019

Directed by: Greg Tiernan, Conrad Vernon. Starring: Oscar Isaac, Charlize Theron, Chloe Grace Moretz, and Finn Wolfhard.

Directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan last brought us the R-rated Sausage Party, and they look to translate some of that humour and wit to this new animated version of The Addams Family, which features the voices of Oscar Isaac as Gomez and Charlize Theron as Morticia. The art style resembles the original artwork by creator, Charles Addams.

'Star Wars: Episode IX'- December 20th, 2019

Directed by: J.J. Abrams. Starring: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega.

You know we couldn't miss this one! No details have been released so far, but that doesn't stop me from getting hyped!
