The water is definitely rising on 'Nashville'. (Warning: spoilers ahead!)

It seems a dark cloud has settled over Nashville after yet another heartbreaking episode on Thursday.

While Nashville often takes the fans on an emotional roller coaster and keeps them on their toes with surprising plots, this time everyone saw the story coming and wishes they hadn’t.

During Episode, 19 “You Can’t Lose Me”, Scarlett suffered an unimaginable loss. You would think she deserved happiness after already losing her mom and Rayna. However, shortly after she and Gunnar were robbed at gun point, Scarlett was also left mourning her baby after a devastating miscarriage.

In last week’s episode, we witnessed the man who robbed Gunnar and Scarlett push a pregnant Scarlett onto the ground after hitting her stomach on a car on the way down. The doctors assured them both the miscarriage was likely not caused by the incident, but it did not stop Gunnar from feeling as if he had failed at protecting Scarlett and the baby.

Making it his personal mission to get revenge, Gunnar hunted down the punk who robbed them and attacked him. Well, roughed him up. Not as much as he deserve,d but Gunnar probably did not want to end up on the news with everything else going on (Avoided headline: "Gunnar Scott Beats Man in Street").

Although the pregnancy did not bring the happy ending that many hoped, the storyline was handled with grace and opened up an important dialogue regarding a tragedy one in four women face in their lifetime.

Following Deacon’s support for Scarlett at the hospital and promise not to tell anyone about the miscarriage, he accidentally tells Jessie Caine. Jessie then goes to Scarlett’s house to leave behind a gift bag full of certain things to help her get through this difficult time when Scarlett spots her and invites her in to talk. Deacon then comes to visit Scarlett, sees the two of them together and becomes angry with Jessie for invading Scarlett's privacy.

Yes, Jessie overstepped her boundaries by intruding on such a personal aspect of Scarlett’s life, especially since the two had not even previously met. However, it can be argued Deacon was the one who compelled her to visit by not only confiding in her about the baby, but also admitting Scarlett’s mom was no longer around and he did not know what to say to her.

That being said, Deacon specifically told Jessie, Scarlett did not want anyone to know about the baby and she should have respected that. Based off of Scarlett’s initial reaction of betrayal upon seeing Jessie and finding out Deacon had told her, things could have easily went south, and the last thing Deacon wants or needs is to alienate Scarlett given that he has already lost Rayna. So, he had every right to be angry.

Regardless of who was at fault for Jessie’s visit, her scene with Scarlett was heartwarming as she shared her own experiences of losing children and gave her advice on how to heal. The conversation between the two was definitely important in addressing the difficult topic of miscarriage and letting Scarlett, as well as fans everywhere, know they are not at fault nor alone.

It also presented an opportunity for the fans to get to know Jessie and for her and Scarlett to bond. In fact, it was almost reminiscent of Scarlett and Rayna’s scenes together (oh, how we miss you, Rayna). After all, if Jessie is ever going to be with Deacon, which we all know is what CMT is planning, it is important for her to have a relationship with the people in his life which includes Scarlett and at some point, even the girls.

Even though the scene with Jessie was a nice touch and it seemed to open a lot of doors for the future, the fans are not ready for Deacon to move on with someone so quickly after Rayna’s death earlier in the season. The writers seem to be pushing through grief too fast. Just last week, Daphne and Maddie were not ready for Deacon to get rid of any of their mom’s clothes so we doubt they will be supportive of him moving on with Jessie, let alone any woman, any time soon.

The same season that began with Rayna should not end with Jessie. She still needs time to fill such a big hole in the lives of the girls and the fans. The fans are just not ready to move on from Rayna, after all she and Deacon were meant to be together and had years of memories behind them. The writers should respect that.

Another relationship we were not ready to see end was that of Scarlett and Gunnar, who broke up for what seems like the umpteenth time not only this season, but over the course of the show.

Scarlett told Gunnar she did not want to hold him back while she figured things out for herself and he left for Texas to find himself. Why does it always seem like these two are “finding themselves?” Can they not ever just be happy? Guess the answer is no, especially right now. Despite that, we are all still rooting for Scunnar.

To add to the drama, Maddie and Juliette also faced a falling out after Maddie found out Juliette stole the song “Water Rising” for herself instead of passing it along as she promised.

Oh, how Juliette should have been the better person she vowed to be after the plane crash and told her the truth! Unfortunately, Juliette’s scheming ways are back and despite her great effort to keep Maddie and Travis (the songwriter of “Water Rising”) apart during the launch party, Travis found Maddie on his way out and mentioned her passing on the song.

Now, we all know how Juliette can be but Maddie’s next move was not smart, given the fact she is still trying to fix her image after the police fiasco, yet she did it anyway. Did what? Well, she through a cocktail in Juliette’s face in front of the media.

So, we will just have to wait and see how that blows up. Juliette did try to apologize but Maddie did not answer the door and we still do not know if Juliette will receive the forgiveness she craves.

As the show ended, Scarlett seemed to have forgiven herself for losing the baby and realized it was not her fault. As she appeared at a fundraiser for a women’s health clinic, she not only told Daphne and Maddie what happened to the baby but also admitted to the entire room she had a miscarriage.

It was a beautiful scene as Scarlett opened up about the baby, followed by a heartfelt song full of both heartbreak and hope called “Forever” as the camera panned in on a box of baby things that belonged to her late daughter, inscribed with the name Amelia Rose.

Altogether it was a beautifully tragic episode. We just hope Scarlett’s pain is not as overlooked by the writers as ours has been this season.
