New & Upcoming Quentin Tarantino Movies
Notoriously violent director Quentin Tarantino has reaffirmed rumors that he will only direct 10 films in total before retiring from cinema.
Well, it looks like he hasn't been talking to Mr. Brown after all — notoriously violent director #QuentinTarantino has reaffirmed rumors that he will only direct 10 films in total before retiring from cinema. In a case of two more then out, the man behind #ReservoirDogs, #PulpFiction, and the #KillBill saga will bow out after his tenth outing.
Speaking at the Adobe Max creativity conference in San Diego, the 53-year-old told the crowd:
"Drop the mic. Boom. Tell everybody, 'Match that shit.'"
This came to rapturous applause (who knows why), and I guess that this puts the breaks on the bloodthirsty director turning his hand to #Deadpool2!
Growing Old Gracefully
Since 1992 Tarantino has gone on to be one of cinema's most-celebrated directors, and dominated box offices since Reservoir Dogs became an underground hit. Even his most recent film, #TheHatefulEight, which divided critics stateside, made a killing overseas.
He has already teased that his next film could be a Bonnie and Clyde-esque caper, but told the crowd that for the meantime he is focussing on a historical nonfiction project. For the past four years he has been researching cinema in the '70s, but given Tarantino's past works, we can only assume it will be some sort of bloodbath from the past.
What we do know is that the ninth film is sure to have an eclectic soundtrack. Tarantino said that often the music comes before the idea:
"So much of [the movie's language] revolves around a sound or a song...Before I've started, I'm seriously thinking about the music. I'm listening to a track and picturing everyone at the Cannes Palais just loving it."
New & Upcoming Quentin Tarantino Movies:
With Tarantino currently rummaging through his record collection, what could he be working on? Speaking about the ideas that he has for upcoming projects, Tarantino told NME in January:
"I think maybe the one genre left might be a 1930s gangster movie, that kind of John Dillinger thing. I’m also interested in doing something contemporary, where I can have a character who gets in a car, turns on the radio so I can have a cool driving montage. And if I had all the time in the world, I would love to make a really, really scary horror film, like The Exorcist."
If there are only two more films in the Tarantinoverse, let's head on down to Jack Rabbit Slims for a $5 shake and see what's up his sleeve:
1. 1930's Gangster Film
Presumably the Bonnie and Clyde caper Tarantino has been talking about — we can imagine it starring some of his cast alumni like Uma Thurman, Tim Roth, and of course Samuel L. Jackson. You can guarantee that with Tarantino at the helm it would make The Godfather look like Bugsy Malone.
2. Driving Film
Not much to go on here. Someone driving in a car, with some '70s tunes, and a bad green screen — tick for every other Tarantino film. Why not get Bruce Willis back in his lil' yellow taxi. At the moment, all I can picture is Ryan Gosling in Drive.
3. Horror Film
Scarier than The Exorcist? With Tarantino saying he is currently in his four-year project of looking at cinema of the '70s, he is certainly in the right timeframe for evil little Regan. The decade which also gave us Jaws, Halloween, and The Omen — look's like he is in the right area if he wants to make a "new" horror classic.
4. Inglourious Basterds 2
There was reportedly a whole film of stuff cut out from Basterds, and enough that could have made a sequel of its own. Tarantino said that he had the idea for a rogue platoon of black soldiers, who were due to be court martialed and hung. The platoon escape and head for Switzerland, where guess who they run into — Lt. Aldo Raine. A great idea, but there are two other films I would much rather see!
5. The (Very Old) Vega Brothers
With his very own Tarantinoverse, the world of Quentin is connected through the entirety of his films — like a better thought out American Horror Story. Family relations, cigarette brands, even their own burgers. There is currently 24 years of history to tie together in just two films.
One of the many forgotten ideas was a film following Vincent Vega (Pulp Fiction) and Vic Vega (Reservoir Dogs) in their crime spree across America, with John Travolta and Michael Madsen reprising their roles. Sadly, the film never came to pass, and the two old dogs are looking a little bit past it now. However, we could ignore their film deaths, or use some Benjamin Button technology to close the book on one of Tarantino's biggest what ifs.
6. Kill Bill Vol. 3
Let's be honest though, the film we all really want to see is Kill Bill Vol. 3, but what would you even call it, Return of The Bride ? Rumors of a third Uma film have circulated since the sequel in 2004. Tarantino remained quiet about the possibility, but said he had an idea for a third film.
He wanted all the cast to have aged by about 10 years, but 2014 has been and gone. We can only assume that little Nikkia Green would come to avenge her mother's murder at the start of Kill Bill Vol. 1. The idea of a blind Daryl Hannah back as Elle Driver already, and Julie Dreyfus as an armless Sofie Fatale has us quaking in our kimonos.
So, will Tarantino stick to his word and go down in a blaze of glory, or still be shuffling round conventions aged 80? Either way, his career has already left behind a legacy of eight films, so even if he were to leave now, he is still one of Hollywood's greatest directors. Personally, I say keep rolling them out until his cast are eating pulped Big Kahuna Burgers in an old people's home.
