Nicolas Cage has been extremely busy cranking out low-budget, straight-to-VOD films these days. The next project he's working on is a gangster film entitled, Running With The Devil. The film is written and directed by Jason Cabell, a Navy Seal with two bronze stars.

Film Synopsis

The story is about a drug ringleader who gets entangled in a compromised cocaine shipment. He enlists the assistance of his most trusted cook (Nicolas Cage) and a master drug trafficker, on a mission towards a dangerous journey across international borders to audit its supply chain from its origins as a coca plant in Colombia. They navigate through a spectrum of federals, gangsters, refiners, and couriers to the final point of purchase at a nightclub in Canada. The film seems like a cross between Nic's 2016 film, Dog Eat Dog and his 2012 film, Stolen. Will Van Halen's signature song, "Running With The Devil" be featured in the movie? That remains to be seen!

Casting Call

A casting call for two working girls that one of the leads hires in the film after he notices them in a sex show are now underway until February 25. Two speaking roles in two scenes are up for grabs. The roles call for two Asian, prostitute-type actresses between the ages of 21-30. Partial nudity is required. Interesting note: Why are they casting only two Asian women, because one of the leads has an Asian fetish and they seem to be the submissive type? If Nic were shooting a film here in New York, I could play the part of a news anchor or reporter really well since that's my occupation! In many of his films, he features "news footage." It might be something to consider, right Nic?

This film casts February 20-25 and shoots in Albuquerque March 12-30 and also will shoot scenes in Los Angeles.

'Caged' in Virtual Reality Film and at the Cinequest Film Festival

Nicolas Cage's latest film, the sci-fi thriller The Humanity Bureau VR (virtual revolution), is set for release on March 2 and the full film of the same title will drop on April 6. The sister version will premiere at The Cinequest Film Festival in San Jose, CA. where the guest of honor, Cage, will receive the honorable Maverick Spirit Award and a video tribute to him on February 28 at The California Theatre in San Jose. The festival runs from February 27-March 11. The festival also runs in Redwood, CA.

The Cinequest Film Festival will feature huge events with many celebrities including parties, a virtual reality festival, a wide selection of films and more. This is actually the first year I have heard of The Cinequest Festival. I covered the famous Tribeca Film Festival and The Greenwich Film Festival last year. I got invited back to the Tribeca Film Festival 2018! It runs April 18-29. They announce the official schedule March 15. I hope Nicolas Cage shows up at Tribeca too! I'll be very disappointed if he doesn't! Nic, if you're reading this article—please show up at the Tribeca Film Festival. I would love to meet you!

Could 2018 be 'The Year of the Cage'?

Cage recently premiered his film, Mandy at the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, UT, back in January. The movie is directed by Panos Cosmatos. It is still seeking a distributor and received mixed reviews at the festival during its premiere. His other films, 211, Between Worlds, and Primal are currently in production or waiting to be released. 2018 could very well be an amazing year for Nicolas Cage.
