Nobody Puts Natalie Portman in a Corner: Jennifer Grey Reveals Who She Would Cast in a 'Dirty Dancing' Remake!
In an interview with JustJenny, host Jenny Hutt asked Jennifer Grey who she would cast in the roles of Johnny and Baby in a potential remake.
Abigail Breslin has already been cast as the beloved Frances "Baby" Houseman in the upcoming ABC production of the 1987 classic Dirty Dancing. However, the original Baby gave her own suggestions as to who should step into the role, and they are pretty great.
In an interview with JustJenny, host Jenny Hutt asked Jennifer Grey who she would cast in the roles of Johnny, originally portrayed beautifully by the late Patrick Swayze, and Baby in a potential remake,
“I think Natalie Portman and Ryan Gosling... Wouldn’t you like to see them? Or Channing Tatum?”
Ryan Gosling As Johnny
When asked why Ryan Gosling would make a good lead, Grey explained:
"The Gos has just got something, you know what I mean? He’s just got something and he’s that very mysterious... He's just got that crazy thing. You look at him and go like, ‘Oh God. That. What would that be like?’ ... And that's all you need the guy to do."
She went on to compliment Gosling's skills by referring to his Mickey Mouse Club days with Justin Timberlake. You can check out a performance the two shared below and those are some serious crooning skills by the Canadian beauty.
Channing Tatum As Johnny
Grey chooses the "smokeshow" himself, Channing Tatum, as a second pick for the role of Johnny and refers back to her excitement following a screening of Magic Mike XXL:
“I was screaming and kicking. I could not believe the amount of sexual energy in his dancing. I think it’s very hard to find straight men who can dance — really dance. It’s just a beautiful thing."
Natalie Portman As Baby
As for the role that made her a household name, Grey suggests one of the best working actresses today, the phenomenal Natalie Portman. She states:
"I don’t know if she’s young enough to play that virgin thing, but she’s so gorgeous... She’s just the best, most beautiful, amazing — and a great dancer.”
Portman received an Academy Award in 2011 for her role as Nina Sayers in the Darren Aronofsky psychological thriller Black Swan, so we could see her rocking the Baby role. To be fair though, she could really rock anything.
Let's not forget all of the other people who wouldn't mind being picked for the Dirty Dancing TV series, and who have recorded their choreography for us all to see:
