Oops! Five of the Funniest Background Blunders Found in Iconic Movie Scenes

How were these things not seen, until now!?

If you are anything like me and love a good movie binge, then you may also be someone that loves a good spot of movie trivia—like, did you know that in Jaws, when Police Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) sees the shark for the first time and says, "You're going to need a bigger boat,” that was totally improvised.

If you like interesting nuggets like that, then you may also be the kind of person that loves a continuity error, or two! Or, maybe even a juicy background faux pas? If, so, then sit back, relax and enjoy the following goofs found in the background of some iconic movie scenes.

5. 'The Wizard of Oz'

I think Dorothy needs to return those ruby slippers to the store; they look nothing like they do on the box!

The Wizard of Oz, which released in 1939, is widely considered as one of the greatest movies ever in cinematic history. It has a little bit of everything, and is accessible to all. It is an adaptation of L. Frank Baum's children's book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

This is a firm family favourite and there are a few more oddities that can be found in the background of this movie but today we’ll stick with the wrong shoes.

4. 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'

Hey, Billy the Kid, get out of the shot!

Who isn’t a fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean series (whatever number we are on now)?! It is action packed, full of pretty people and takes us on many a high-sea adventure with lovable crews and high-octane swashbuckling mayhem. But, I don’t remember cowboys being involved…

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, which released in 2003, is one of five (so far) of Disney's Theme Park inspired pirate adventure series.

Following the exploits of Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp), Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) and crew we set sail on a series of fun, entertaining maritime adventures.

3. 'Shaun of the Dead'

Not so much a blunder but more of a “I can’t believe I didn’t know that!” moment.

Yup, that is none other than Chris Martin from Coldplay. Some may say that this explains why he sounds so sad all the time (aw snap!). Chris Martin, long-time friend of Simon Pegg cameoed in the comedy hit, Shaun of the Dead.

Shaun of the Dead, released in 2009, is a British comedy that follows the path of Shaun (Pegg), a lack-luster Londoner who finds himself caught up in a zombie apocalypse. Real funny, worth a watch!

2. 'Jurassic Park'

Who left the shower on?

This is a big “oops” moment for the cameraman that was tasked to shoot the first big entrance for the movies leading dinosaur. In the first real big scene where we get a good eyeful of the T-Rex in Jurassic Park we can see, if you look closely, that the cameraman aims a little too high and catches the sprinkler that is used to create the rain effect. Doh!

Jurassic Park, which released in 1993, was the smash dino-hit that was the birth of an incredible series of prehistoric adventures within which we find ourselves bottom of the food chain. Good old family fun with mild terror thrown in.

1. 'Despicable Me'

Get a room, you two!

Despicable Me, released in 2010, is one of my all-time favourite movies. But, I never noticed, until recently, that in the scene where the whole crowd is cheering, that there are two minions caught on film engaged in a passionate kiss. I just love this, what a fun thing for the animators to include. I hope they are still together!

These are just a few of the background goofs I have spotted, if you want another five, let me know and I shall provide. Stay tuned to Vocal for more fun articles, like this.
