Paul Walker's Daughter Reaches Settlement in Wrongful Death Suit Against Porsche

Four years after the death of actor Paul Walker, his daughter, Meadow Walker, has settled a wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche. Paul Walker and Roger Rodas were killed on November 30, 2013, when the Porsche Carrera GT they were riding in crashed and exploded. The terms of the settlement won't be released to the public.

According to People, the suit alleged that "Porsche knew the Carrera GT had a history of instability and control issues, but [the company failed] to install an electronic stability control system specifically designed to protect against the swerving actions inherent in hypersensitive vehicles of this type."

Meadow Walker's lawyers also claimed that the seatbelt design was defective, snapping Paul Walker back with thousands of pounds of force, which broke his ribs and pelvis. As a result, Paul Walker was trapped in the car when it caught fire a minute and twenty seconds after the crash. The lawsuit had alleged that he might have been able to get out of the car if it hadn't been for the malfunctioning seatbelt. In addition, the fire itself was purportedly caused by faulty fuel lines.

This isn't the first suit Meadow Walker filed after her father's death. In 2016, as a result of a lawsuit against Roger Rodas's estate, she was awarded $10.1 million. Though the money may seem like a lot, it won't make up for the time Meadow lost with her father.

The Porsche lawsuit, however, may force the company to correct alleged problems with its vehicles. If no other family has to suffer through a loss like Meadow's, they could have her to thank—although the company maintains that altering and misusing it "caused or contributed to the incident and to Mr. Walker's death."

In 2016, Meadow launched The Paul Walker Foundation in her father's memory, saying:

“Reflecting on my father, I found myself reflecting on his passions. His passion for the ocean, his passion for rescuing animals, his passion for helping people and his passion for spontaneous goodwill. I wanted to start this foundation because I want to share that piece of him with the world. I want to share that part of him with others.”

Meadow has learned a lot in her 18 years, and she is using that knowledge to keep her father's memory alive and to protect the welfare of others. There is little doubt that Paul Walker would have been proud of her.
