X-Men: Apocalypse is set to premiere domestically within the next few weeks. And we're getting lots more in terms of promotional footage and commentary on the film. Producer of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016), Simon Kinberg just teased the post-credits scene of the film in an interview with Collider. Here's what Simon Kinberg has to say on the post-credits scene of the film.

“It’s a nod toward potentially a lot of different movies. I mean certainly the Wolverine movie is related to what happens at the end of it, but there’s also another character that’s introduced, at least in name, in the tag and he could show up in any host of different X-Men films. Maybe a Gambit movie, maybe another X-Men movie.”

No one has seen the Post-Credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse yet.

There's much that can be theorized, based on Kinberg's latest comments. But no one knows anything of the post-credits scene, as it will premiere during the domestic release of X-Men: Apocalypse. Even the attendees of the London premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse haven't seen the post-credits scene of the film, which means no one can confirm the contents of the aforementioned scene other than Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer.

Who could Simon Kinberg be mentioning?

For now, we have to dissect the comments made by Simon Kinberg to determine who the subject of the post-credits scene is on. Well we know that Kinberg mentions James Mangold's new 'Wolverine' feature which has the potential for someone related to Wolverine/Logan showing up. That could also include supporting cast from The Wolverine (2013), like Mariko (Tao Okamoto) or Yukio (Rila Fukashima). Or the other option is for someone of Wolverine's past to be the focus of the post-credits scene in X-Men: Apocalypse.

Potential candidates to appear in the Post-Credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse.

In that circumstance, someone of Wolverine's past may resurface to get some closure with James "Logan" Howlett, the Wolverine. And that could be his mutant rival in Victor Creed, otherwise known as Sabretooth. It appears as though the events of Wolverine: Origins (2009) have been erased from the continuity of 'X-Men' films which means that Sabretooth, previously played by actor, Liev Schreiber could have been recast with the potential to appear in a future 'X-Men' film. And with the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse touching upon Wolverine's presence in the same universe of mutants, it's more than plausible for a new iteration of Sabretooth to be given a mention as he could be a part of the antagonist element in the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine, or even as far as being attached to the solo Gambit movie, which has been rumored to be one of the next 'X-Men' films in development; apart from X-Men: The New Mutants.

Is Simon Kinberg cleverly setting up the next villain of the 'X-Men' universe?

Or it's possible that Simon Kinberg is teasing an even bigger addition to the 'X-Men' universe in the form of Nathaniel Essex, Mister Sinister. Before going on with how Mister Sinister could fit into the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse, we need to go over the fact, in that the product of Mister Sinister's experiments, Nate Grey, has been spotted in one of the trailers for X-Men: Apocalypse; though he doesn't seem to have a central or supporting role in the film. That could mean his character is being set up to play a bigger part in a future film. And with the potential of Nate Grey having a featured role in future 'X-Men' films, his origins would need to be fully explained. Implicating Mister Sinister as a necessary addition to the 'X-Men' universe, in order to fully flesh out the origins of Nate Grey. And to credit the idea of Mister Sinister being the focus of the post-credits scene in X-Men: Apocalypse, Kinberg's mention of a "Gambit" movie being related to the scene could mean that Mister Sinister will take on a role in the aforementioned "Gambit" movie, seeing is that Mister Sinister was the mutant whom Remy Lebeau turned to when his mutant powers began to manifest themselves past his own control.

Marvel Comics' history of Gambit and Mister Sinister connection.

In Marvel Comics, Remy Lebeau or Gambit as he's more widely known as, wasn't able to control the growing level of his mutant abilities. Gambit's abilities manifested themselves in different levels. At first, he was able to control the energy within himself by connecting the energy flowing within himself to objects at his disposal, to disperse the excess energy inside of him. However, Gambit's mutant power only began to increase, and the amount of stored energy within his body began to unintentionally disperse itself from his body. When he could see no other option in controlling his mutant abilities, Gambit turned to Mister Sinister for help. Mister Sinister did help Gambit with his problem, but in return for a favor, of course. But in doing so, Mister Sinister was able to subdue a part of Gambit's energy, making Gambit's mutant abilities manageable. In return for Mister Sinister's help, Gambit had to become a part of Sinister's group known as The Marauders; whom also had Sabretooth as a part of the team, which could coincide with Kinberg's mention of a tag relating to either Wolverine or Gambit.

The Marauders, Marvel Comics.

Or could the mysterious 'Gambit' film already be in pre-production?

With the potential for either Mister Sinister or Sabretooth being the focus of the post-credits scene in X-Men: Apocalypse, is it possible that Kinberg is actually setting up a "Gambit" movie? We know that Channing Tatum has been confirmed to be in the role of Gambit when he gets his first appearance as the character, but we don't know when Gambit will first appear. It could be that Tatum's Gambit will get his first cameo in the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse. And the mention of both Wolverine and Gambit in Kinberg's comments to Collider could back up that theory. Although, we won't know until X-Men: Apocalypse gets its worldwide premiere, featuring the aforementioned post-credits scene.

To reiterate which mutant(s) Simon Kinberg could be teasing in the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse (2016). The mention of the upcoming sequel to The Wolverine (2013), as well as the future "Gambit" film, make the likeliest set of characters to appear in the post-credits scene of X-Men: Apocalypse to be that of Sabretooth, Mister Sinister, or Gambit himself. All three characters have a connecting comic-book mythos, which gives the implication of any or all of these new characters to tease an upcoming 'X-Men' film.
