Since we learned of a reboot of Power Rangers (2017) being in the works, long-standing fans of the franchise have gone through every media outlet, searching for any new tidbits of information which would shed some light on what we can expect to see in the new reboot of Power Rangers. The new film will be directly based off of the original children's program "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers", created by Haim Saban and Shuki Levy; Dean Israelite will helm the new reboot.

There has been some development in terms of images being released for the film, which has provided us with our first look at the Rangers, as well as a look at Elizabeth Banks in her role as the villainous Rita Repulsa. Other than a few images from the set of the film showing off the Rangers and Rita Repulsa, nothing else of note has made its way online. But even without more information providing us with the insight we need to decipher the plot and structure of the film, fans have gone on to predict what other elements from "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers" will be integrated into the reboot of Power Rangers. The most popular prediction making its way online is that of the Zords being introduced, in order to combat larger threats than the Rangers can handle on their own.

When will the Zords make an appearance?

In the original program of "Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers (MMPR)", the Zords were huge robotic vehicles which the Rangers would ride in to battle on against huge monsters created by the particular antagonist of the series. In "MMPR", the main antagonist was that of Rita Repulsa, who would create various monsters to destroy the Earth. But of course, the Rangers would step in with the help of their Zords to battle and defeat the monsters created by Rita Repulsa. Here's a clip from "MMPR", depicting a battle between the Rangers in their Zord against a monster.

Yes, the imagery from "MMPR" is quite cheesy and quite poorly made, but we couldn't expect more from such a futuristic concept conceived in the time that "MMPR" made its debut. Diving deep into the science fiction genre was a gamble for "MMPR" but the construction of the series definitely worked. The series appealed to the correct demographic and developed into a long-running franchise. And now that the franchise is being revived through a modern-age film, there's a possibility that the preconceived concepts developed in "MMPR" will translate more fluently in our technologically advanced age than it did during the '90s.

That being said, the more futuristic concepts that'll make a bigger statement in Power Rangers will likely be that of the Zords. But for now, we don't have any concept art or teaser images to give us a glimpse at what we'll see in the film. However, a scene from Pacific Rim (2013) could have provided us with a look at what a battle between the Rangers' Zords and Rita Repulsa's monsters will look like.

After viewing the clip from Pacific Rim, the fight between the Kaiju and the Jaeger is clearly a close depiction to what we'll see in the upcoming reboot of Power Rangers when the Rangers jump up in to their mechanized robots, the Zords.

Now, the Zords being introduced during the film is purely speculative at the moment but it's more reasonable to believe that they'll be included in the film, rather than such a major staple of the franchise being excluded altogether. Although, since Lionsgate is planning on six more Power Rangers films , the conclusion of the first film may find the Rangers facing off against a foe of monstrous proportions to where the Zords could be introduced during the next film. But the likelier scenario will introduce the Zords during the final act of the film; still purely speculation.

What do you think? Should the Zords be introduced in the new reboot? And is the clip from Pacific Rim (2013) a believable depiction of how the Zord fight will go in Power Rangers? Or could the Zords be saved for a future entry? Have any thoughts, leave them in the comment section below.
