Avengers: Endgame is the culmination of the Infinity Saga in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With 21 films leading up to this movie, it is one of the most anticipated films of all time. Due to all the theorizing on the internet, many people entered the cinema with some ideas and expectations already in their head. So does Avengers: Endgame live up to all the waiting and all the hype? This is my very quick review of the film, which will include the highs that made me happy/geek out, and the lows of the film which made me cry the most (Major spoilers ahead!).

The Highs:

1. The Beginning

The beginning of the film is extremely powerful as we see Hawkeye and his family before the original snap. The family environment is beautiful with his children playing, preparing for lunch. Then he turns away from his family for one moment, and his entire family is gone, reduced to nothing but dust, then a cut to black after we see the confused Clint Barton desperately looking for his family. This is the shocking start that the film needed after Infinity War, and it also left the showing I was in completely silent.

2. Tony Stark's Family

One of the best moments of this film is seeing the character of Tony Stark mature enough to finally become a father. Teasing us with this prospect during Infinity War, the directors made the correct choice to give the character this arc in Endgame. It also made perfect sense that five years after the decimation, Stark has created a family with Pepper, and an easy life for himself. However, in true Iron Man fashion, he cannot stay out of the fight for too long.

3. Hulk

During the film we meet Hulk five years after the decimation, he reveals that after spending 18 months in the lab, he managed to merge Banner and Hulk into one being. Merging the brains, and the brawn, to truly get the best of both. Banner reveals that rather than being ashamed by his alter ego, he should accept Hulk and stop trying to run from it. This leads to a Hulk that isn't reckless and unpredictable, and can finally be a reliable member of the Avengers.

4. Time Travel/Fan Service

The main plot of the film is that Thanos destroyed the stones in the present day, and five years after that Ant-Man returns from the quantum realm leading to the time travel idea. The combo of Ant-Man's quantum realm tech, and Tony Stark discovering time travel, leads to the Avengers' time heist plan. This is the most creative and inventive superhero plot yet, and after being unsure when it was introduced, seeing this unfold on the screen was awesome. The plot also meant for some amazing fan service that I saw as a thank you to every fan that has watched all the MCU films. This was due to the movie revisiting the time periods of other films such as the first Avengers movie, Thor: The Dark World and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.1. Not to mention returning characters such as The Ancient One, Red Skull, and Loki to mention a few.

5. The Final Battle

The final battle of Avengers: Endgame is the first time we see that many characters on screen at the one time. There are so many cool moments during this battle that I can only speak on the few I thought were best.

The moment when Captain America finally wields Mjolnir is perfect. After teasing that he is worthy during Age of Ultron, seeing Captain America with the shield in one hand, and Mjolnir in the other was something us Marvel fans could only wish for.

Another amazing moment was when all of the female superheroes came together to fight against Thanos and his army. To name a few, this included Scarlett Witch, The Wasp, Mantis, Valkyrie, Gamora, and Pepper Potts in a Rescue-inspired armor. Watching this in the cinema gave me goosebumps, and all I could think was young girls watching this can finally see that women superheroes are just as powerful as men.

By far the most amazing part of that battle is when Captain America is alone and facing Thanos, and his full army, you then hear Falcon on the radio. After that, all of our heroes that were part of the decimation come back to help fight alongside Captain America, he finally says the words "Avengers Assemble." A moment fans have been waiting for since the start of the MCU.

6. Passing of the Shield

Once the film has come to a climax, there are some somber scenes that I will talk about during the lows. There is one scene right at the end that I have been waiting to see for years. After Cap returns all the stones to their specific time periods, he doesn't return deciding to stay in 1940 with his true love Peggy Carter, finishing his story arc. However, this is not the end of Captain America, Steve shows up at the exact spot where he was supposed to return, as an older man sitting on a bench. Falcon walks over to meet him, and talks for a bit before Steve passes the mantle of Captain America down to Falcon to become the new Captain America. This is one of the best scenes in the entire film, as it simultaneously ends Steve Rodgers arc, while furthering Falcon's to become the new leader of the Avengers.

The Lows:

1. Ant-Man meets his daughter

One of the most tear-jerking moments of the early parts of Endgame is when Ant-Man finds out about the decimation, and races to try and find his family. He finds his daughter's old house and slams on the door shouting her name. The moment that struck me is when Scott Lang realizes that the older girl answering the door is, in fact, his daughter, five years older. This moment was firstly heartbreaking, but then quickly turned uplifting, this is because it takes a minute for Scott to realize that it is Cassie at the door. Once he realizes the scene turns into something beautiful.

2. Black Widow

Black Widow has been an integral part of the Avengers ever since it's creation in the MCU. She has been a leader alongside Iron Man and Captain America, and she has been loved by the fans. This film involves the death of Black Widow, in my opinion, it is the perfect way to finish her story. During the film, she sacrifices herself to allow Hawkeye to gain the soul stone. This ties up her story perfectly, and is the best ending for her character, as all she has ever wanted was to help and make a difference. By sacrificing her own life for the stone, she certainly makes a difference, and even though I am sad to see her leave, I think it was handled perfectly.

3. Iron Man

Where do I start with this? The most heartbreaking moment of Endgame was the death of Iron Man. At the end of the battle, Thanos manages to get the gauntlet, and clicks his fingers only realize that Iron Man has stolen the stones. A gauntlet forms around them from his suit and he clicks his fingers to dust Thanos and his army. After that Tony's body is clearly very damaged from the power of the stones, with Rhodey, Spider-Man, Pepper, and the rest of the Avengers around him he drifts off knowing he has saved the universe. The ending of Iron Mans's story has to be the best of all characters, for many reasons. He finally gets his personal revenge on Thanos, and he is finally at peace. For the first time in his life he can truly relax.
