Ranking the Acting Performances for the Main Cast of 'Teen Wolf'

Teen Wolf just wrapped season 5 and has had a wide range of talented young actors and actresses take on lead roles in the show that will lead to most of them having amazing futures in Hollywood.

Jeff Davis and his crew have done an amazing job at scouting out young talent; so much so that they are having a difficult time keeping their talent on the show from season to season. They have lost three actors from their main cast in the last three seasons, along with a handful of recurring roles.

With such a talented cast, I thought dealing out some rankings would be interesting to see where they all stood among each other. This list will only feature main cast as it would take a long time to get through every actor that appears on the show. So names like Daniel Sharmen, Linden Ashby, and Jill Wagner will not be included.

9. Arden Cho (Kira Yukimura)

Arden Cho was introduced in season 3B as the new love interest for lead character Scott, but also to move the plot towards Japanese folklore and mythology with here being a Kitsune.

While she is a likeably awkward character, Arden Cho struggles to deliver anything much more than that awkwardness. When a scene turns dark and requires a dramatic performance, she lacks the ability to delve into those kind of emotions.

8. Tyler Posey (Scott McCall)

I bet you weren't expecting this were you? I may get flak for having Tyler Posey this low, especially with him being the main character of the show, but is it really a surprise? Tyler Posey seems like possibly one of the coolest guys you could ever meet, but his acting is choppy and seems to have only gotten worse as the show continues.

During Season 1 Posey seemed like a breakout star, being able to deliver emotional, angry, and even funny scenes. It seems though that as the show has gone on his ability just to simply deliver lines and interact with his co-star's characters has gone flat. Now to be fair, the writing on the show has become lazy and poorly written in the last few seasons which could lead to Tyler Posey having very little to work with, but either way his performance could be described as almost wooden.

I will give him credit though, he plays pissed off pretty well. He can display such anger on his face even when not in wolf make-up, but it's his acting outside of his great pissed off face and screaming that has him so low.

7. Dylan Sprayberry (Liam Dunbar)

The newest actor to join the main cast. Sprayberry has showcased an ability to play sarcastic as well as dramatic acting. While he does a solid job, he also has a lot of room for improvement, but at 17 years old he has plenty of time to

I think the young man has potential, but does need to work on interacting with the actors around him and feeding off their energy. He has range, but he needs to sharpen it up.

6. Shelley Hennig (Malia Tate)

Coming in during season 3 Shelley Hennig is a very interesting character. She got a less then warm welcome with fans who wanted to see Stiles end up with Lydia, with Malia being the roadblock to that fan shipper.

Hennig was able to turn Malia into a fan favorite character even with the initial backlash from the fan base. The characters dimwitted nature does not do Hennig's talent justice, but she plays it off well.

5. Tyler Hoechlin (Derek Hale)

Hoechlin was a series regular from seasons 1-4 until his departure from the show in season 5. My criticism of Hoechlin's performance closely resembles Tyler Posey's, but seeing as how his character is supposed to have a stoic disposition I am giving him a pass.

Hoechlin did a great job at not only being intimidating, but portray the kindhearted nature of his character. He was able to create a layered character and while he did seem to struggle at tackling more emotional scenes at times, it was still an admirable performance.

4. Holland Roden (Lydia Martin)

Lydia has had the most character development of anyone on the show and it has shown off Roden's range. She went from the mean girl to a highly intelligent and independent woman with ease.

Roden can deliver a great performance and has been an anchor for much of the cast throughout the last few years.

3. Colton Haynes (Jackson Whittemore)

Spoiled, arrogant, sociopathic, and obsessive; Jackson Whittemore was a very layered character that Colton Haynes brought to life beautifully. He portrayed every evil little tendency about Jackson and was even able to show off the rare times we saw that Jackson was not a complete jerk.

2. Crystal Reed (Allison Argent)

Another character with a lot of development and an actress who showed off tremendous range. Played the girl next door and the vengeful werewolf killer with ease. Crystal Reed showed us that she is a very underrated talent that should get much more recognition. There was a scene in season 2 where she first learned of her mothers death and the pure agony that she was able to project almost put me to tears.

If her performance as Allison Argent was not enough; this past season she returned to portray Marie-Jeanne Valet and not only did she pull off a french accent like a pro, but she portrayed a completely different character in the same exact show and she was borderline unrecogonizable.

She left the show after season 3 in hopes of more opportunities in her career and unfortunately it has not worked out yet, but I am sure she will get her big break soon.

1. Dylan O'Brien (Stiles Stilinski)

I think we all knew this was coming. Dylan O'Brien has been the break out star of Teen Wolf, and there is good reason for that. O'Brien has one of the widest ranges of any actor, not just this show, but possibly in all of Hollywood, and certainly for his age range.

On the show Stiles is not only sarcastic and funny but in season 3B he played a villain and was able to give such a dramatic performance that I got goosebumps during almost all of "Void Stiles" scenes.
