The past 17 years have been unkind to the Children of the Atom.

The X-Men have been forced to sit on the sidelines as the Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy, and the Inhumans transformed from floundering franchises into box office champions of film, television, and comics. However, ResurrXion, a franchise storyline event is expected to change of the X-Men's status quo. After many decimations of mutantkind, schisms, the deaths of the major team members, and brawls with high profile super-powered teams, the X-Men (along with their fan base) may finally receive what they wanted from Marvel Comics for years: a brighter and hopeful future.

As the X-Men’s war with the Inhumans concluded this week in the pages of Inhumans vs. X-Men, several hints about the next chapter in the X-Men’s storied history have made their way onto pop culture powerhouses such as Comic Book Resources (CBR), Entertainment Weekly, and IGN websites.

Here are some of the titles that you should keep an eye out on as ResurrXion begins:

X-Men Blue/X-Men Gold

The two titles are expected to be the franchise’s core books. Both titles might interest fans to think back to the days of the 1990s signature line-ups, where Uncanny X-Men featured the adventures of Storm, Jean Grey, Archangel, Iceman, and Colossus and X-Men highlighted the adventures of Cyclops, Wolverine, Rogue, Beast, and Psylocke. Writer Cullen Bunn and artist Jorge Molina’s X-Men Blue will highlight the adventures of the time-displaced original X-Men and Magneto, who has taken the team under his wings. Meanwhile, writer Marc Guggenheim and artist Ardian Syaf will bring the adventures of X-Men: Gold to life. The X-Men: Gold title will feature a reunion of sorts for Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, and Old Man Logan as both Kitty Pryde and Rachel Grey return to the team after lengthy absences. Both bi-monthly titles are expected to drop next month.

An Astonishing Return

This week’s biggest X-Men related news came in the form of the return of Astonishing X-Men. Under the superstar team of Joss Whedon and John Cassaday, Astonishing X-Men were cinematic quality adventures that took the team around the world and into outer space. Former Uncanny Inhumans writer Charles Soule and a soon-to-be-announced artist will bring the adventures of this new squad to life. The line-up of the relaunched Astonishing X-Men is expected to include Old Man Logan, Archangel, Psylocke, Fantomex, Gambit, Rogue, Mystique, and Bishop. Astonishing X-Men’s first issue is supposed to drop in July.

Solo adventures and a new Generation X

Several standout X-Men are expected to fly solo in brand new series. Writer Dennis Hopeless and artist Victor Ibanez will take the displaced Marvel Girl on a tour of the Marvel Universe in Jean Grey. The elder Bobby Drake will deal with his homosexuality, maturity issues, and Omega-level mutant powers in his first solo-series, Iceman, which will be penned by writer Sina Grace and artist Alessandro Vitti. Finally, Jubilee returns to the X-Men fold as the leader of young mutant misfits who are not quality X-Men candidates in writer Christina Strain and artist Amilcar Pinna’s revamped Generation X.

ResurrXion will kick off in the pages of the X-Men: Prime one-shot. The title is expected to drop into comic book stores on March 29, 2017.
