Return of the Fantastic Four?

Many fans thought it would never happen, but with Sony and Marvel making their deal to share the movie rights to Spider-Man, we now have Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now the doors are wide open for the rest of Marvel's (former) properties to do the same, particularly when it comes to characters that haven't been handled well...

That's right, folks. Multiple reports have shared the rumor that Fox and Marvel have struck a deal which will allow Fox to make two X-Men television series, Hellfire and Legion. To clear up any confusion, FOX owns the film rights to the X-Men (and its plethora of characters), but in order to do anything on the TV side of things, they need to have Marvel Entertainment's permission. Back in August, Fox Television Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden said they were close in finalizing a deal with Marvel for a live-action X-Men television series, so this may not be a surprise to those that have been following this news. I imagine Marvel taunting FOX with those X-Men television rights like this:

The biggest question for all of this is what does Marvel get from this deal? Apparently, the Fantastic Four (including the rights to Galactus, Doctor Doom, AND the Silver Surfer). This would be a fantastic (pardon the pun) development for Phase 4 of the MCU.

"According to our source, Fox were given the TV rights for X-Men in exchange for Fantastic Four. The deal's been in the works for some time, we're told, and further, the timing of Marvel's recent announcement of its movie slate leading up to the year 2020 and the X-Men TV series is no coincidence." Now, since the initial reports, both FOX and Marvel have apparently denied this claim, but a rumor like this is not unprecedented. With the (second) disappointing attempt of bringing this superhero family to the silver screen, FOX has to be wondering what to do next. They seem to have the X-Men series in the bag (with X-men: Apocalypse due out May 27th), so this rumored deal is a realistic result of their work with these characters; however, only time will tell if any of this holds any truth. Keep your fingers crossed and look out for Marvel's movie plans in 2020.
