So being new to the site, I have already met a few people who I have gotten to know and have been enjoying talking to, both in the group and through messaging on Facebook. One such person is John Carter, who so graciously decided to give me my first "interview" to let you have a little insight into who I am, and some of the stories that have shaped me into the woman that I am today. Without further ado, here are my answers to questions that he thought would be good to ask (and since they hit close to home, I apologize in advance for the length)

1. What is your favorite Pride and Prejudice? BBC mini-series (1995) or Movie directed by Joe Wright (2005 with Keira Knightley)?

This is kind of a no brainer for me. While I did enjoy the 2005 version, looking back on it I do see some of the flaws in the execution. While it was short and sweet, some of the acting choices I felt were slightly out of character and odd, particularly with the two leads. Keira made Elizabeth seem soft spoken, and didn't quite have the forcefulness or conviction behind her words that you might expect from the character, though she did an amazing job during the proposal scene with Darcy and with talking to her mother about her refusal of Mr Collins. A lot of the time, however, she just looked semi scared and panicked, and just lacked that special something that is needed in a character like Elizabeth. Fun fact though: Mr Collins is also the guy who played the bad guy in the second pirates of the carribean movie. And interestingly enough, I feel like if she had played the character Bennet like she did Elizabeth Swan, sarcastic, strong willed and able to hold her own against the likes of Johnny Depp, she would have been a more likeable character. Though I do find her likeness to Winona Ryder hilarious. Our Mr. Darcy, too, at times seemed like little more than a puppy dog following her around. While the character does lack a certain... socially acceptable behavior, even wth the people he is comfortable around he has a sort of stilted being and way of speaking. The only times that I truly believed in his portrayal was when he was dealing with his sister, which was sweet and kind of adorable, though the scenes were too short. And I don't know about you, but the bust of his head and face in the house just looked... weird. The man does have some nice eyes though. Very... very pretty eyesJennifer Ehles, who played the "original" Elizabeth, was quite forceful and had her wits about her. She was constantly mocking those around her in a tongue in cheek manner, and it was her attitude with Mr Darcy, and her cold but subtle change towards Wickham after finding out the truth, that is pleasing to see. And she always had this little secret smile on her face and twinkle in her eye, that always made it seem like she had some joke in her mind about those around her without letting you in on it. Kind of like a living Mona Lisa. Fun fact about her: If you are a fan of "Fifty Shades of Grey" look out for her; she plays Anastasia Steele's mother. And Mr Darcy could not have been made more perfect than that of Colin Firth. Who else, besides Johnny Depp, have you seen play the same character in two different movies that wasn't a sequel to the other? He had the smoldering look on his face, the right amount of awkwardness, but that way about him that made you sure, like in the case of Lydia and Wickham, that he could take control and get his way. His proper manners, coupled with the darkness he carries towards some but softness he has towards others is quite astonishing, particularly in his interactions with Bingley. When Bingley asks his permission, there is this funny moment of, these are two men that are close and trust each other and he just says in this funny manner "Then you have it." That shows maybe he has lightened up slightly because of his experiences and finally knowing the truth. And the lake scene doesn't hurt at all either.

2. Which Hayao Miyazaki film would you like to see be made into a live-action film?

This is probably one of the harder questions for me, because my favorite film is "The Cat Returns" but I think that that would be REALLY hard to translate into live action without making most of it CGI, which I think would defeat the purpose. It was also only produced by Miyazaki, and directed by Hiroyuki Morita. I am also very wary when anyone says they want to turn a cartoon into a live-action movie, because I find that animation is an art form all on it's own, and that it shouldn't necessarily be messed with. But then Hollywood keeps rebooting some of their movies so much, I mean when did the Andrew Garfield Spider-man reboot start and now they are doing it again?, that it does seem like it's just going to become more of a trend of "If it ain't broke, we'll make it so". But that's for another article.

I think if I had to choose, it would probably be "Kiki's Delivery Service". I could see it becoming the new generations "Sabrina the Teenage Witch" and maybe even getting it's own series. From the little that I remember of it, it's been a VERY long time since I last watched it, Kiki was a young witch hopeful with a bit of a clumsy side. I also remember that her familiar was funny. I think that minimal special effects, and maybe more practical effects could be used on a project like this, and be enjoyable for young viewers.

3. If you could cast an Anne of Green Gables today, who would you choose? You can be as detailed as you like, but I am just asking for five characters: Anne (with an "E") Shirley, Diana Barry, Gilbert Blythe, and Marilla & Matthew Cuthbert.

When I saw the 'Anne (with an "E") part, I knew that John was a kindred spirit. That is a running mention in the series, as Anne doesn't like her name but is resigned that if she should be called that, you better spell it with an "E" at the end.

This is also quite mean because I am still getting over the loss of Jonathan Crombie, who originally played Gilbert Blythe in the Anne series. However, after much thought I have come up with my dream cast. I picked based on that it would make sense for the characters to be played by slightly older actors and have them in high school, as Anne goes to college to be a teacher, and in the book becomes a teacher at 16 which, unless you are Doogie Howser, is very unlikely. It also has quite a few CW actors because that is what I watch a lot of.

Anne Shirley- I think that Shailene Woodley would be a good choice. She has the right amount of spunk, and looks young enough to pull it off while still playing her older if it were to go into sequels. She can play the slightly naive role (think "Secret life of an American Teenager") and also be strong and independent. I think she would do well in the role.

Diana Barry- Danielle Campbell. She was sweet and innocent with a bit of spunk in "Starstruck" and she would need to be able to keep up with Anne's wild ways. Danielle is also good at being the supporting role, as shown in "The Originals" while being one of the mains. I think that the two would play well off of each other, and could very easily become friends

Gilbert Blythe- Oh Gil *sniffles* I think that the actor Grant Gustin would be a good choice. He is supposed to be slightly older than Anne and Diana, and he does look like it while still being in the right age range. He has a smile that is very easy going, and a wit that is made that much more obvious in "The Flash". I think his sense of humor and comedic timing would be perfect in the role of Gilbert.

Marilla Cuthbert- Who better to take the matronly role than the original "Anne Shirley" herself, Megan Follows? She has shown herself as a powerhouse in "Reign" and is also a pretty big name in her own right again. She also has that soft side, as shown in the original movies especially the last when she adopts a son. How better to pass along the torch than to have the original actress there? Though with her still vibrant red hair she would probably have to wear a wig.

Matthew Cuthbert- Tom Hanks. Need I say much more? The gentle look in his eye, the presence he carries himself with, and the humor that he has that can either be in your face or subtle, which would need to be with Matthew, he would be the ideal choice. He has that awkward way about him at times, which would be perfect when he has to go and explain why he is buying a puffed sleeves dress. He is good when acting with a younger crowd, and honestly would probably work well and bounce off well with Shailene.... and just imagining what happened to Matthew and that being portrayed by Tom just... oh man if you know what happens you can probably imagine as well.

Now that you have seen a bit of my analytical side, I hope that I didn't bore you with my long winded answers, and before anyone asks, yes I did do the edit of the actors together for Anne, and yes I did "dye" Shailene's hair.
