It seems as though one of my favorite sci-fi films of the last few years has garnered enough buzz to warrant a resurrection -- of sorts -- as a TV show.

Oh the joy that I feel!

Snowpiercer may not be a movie that you're familiar with as it was distributed with an incredibly limited release over a long time frame. Starting in South Korea in late July of 2013 it slowly moved into other foreign markets before reaching the Los Angeles Film Festival in June of 2014 before finding a limited release later the same month and becoming available on the internet 2 weeks later. (It just made it to Mexico in October of this year)

So, if you haven't seen the movie I'm not all that surprised; yet you missed a great film if you haven't seen it yet. So before you continue reading this article go rent the movie, watch it and come back to finish reading. I'll wait for you...

Ok, now that you've seen the movie you can see why I'm so excited that there is an official TV show in the works with Bong Joon Ho (the original director) stepping into the role of Executive Producer, which is just truly awesome! Along with Bong comes Josh Friedman who is set to write the series. Josh is best known for his attachment to Terminator: The Sarah Conner Chronicles, The Finder, Crossbones as well as the upcoming Avatar 2 & 3.

The official film synopsis reads as:

Set in 2031, the entire world is frozen except for those aboard the Snowpiercer. The survivors are on a train hurtling around the globe creating their own economy and class system. Led by Curtis, a group of lower-class citizens living in squalor at the back of the train are determined to get to the front of the train and spread the wealth around. Each section of the train holds new surprises for the group who have to battle their way through. A revolution is underway.

Taking a film like this and adapting it as a TV series will bring a lot of depth to the story and some interesting story-arcs as the series progresses and really digs into the reality of the passengers situation and how they all cope and continue on with their lives.

Josh Friedman had this to say about the project:

"I couldn't be more excited for the opportunity... I'm a huge fan of director Bong's films, especially Snowpiercer. It's great the way the best sci-fi is great - thoughtful, political, funny, scary and sly. And it's on a train. A big f-ing train. What more could you want?"

Tomorrow Studios is partnering with Adelstein and ITV Studios to bring this project to live and will most likely be shopping the series to several networks soon.
