'Sons of Anarchy' Season 2

If you've read my previous review of Sons of Anarchy season 1 you'll know that I have become a reluctant fan of the series. I didn't want to watch season 1 because I watched the premier multiple times trying to get into the series. I finally got forced to watch through the full season and I was thankful for it.

Season 1 gave us a good introduction to the main characters of the show. We have Jax who is the main protagonist. He's grown up into the motorcycle club "Sons of Anarchy." His family has deep roots into the club because his father was a founder and his mother remarried to another founder of the club, Clay. Jax is next in line to lead the club. Jax is caught in between his father's ideologies and his stepfather's old way of doing things.

Sons of Anarchy the bike club is basically an organized crime group with a heart of gold. Clay and his wife Gemma aren't necessarily bad people. They use the club to help rid crime in the small town of Charming but their methods may not be the most ideal. Jax wants to find a way to make the club legitimate and do things legally. There are a ton of minor characters that have tons of charisma and personality.

The first season ended off pretty nicely but with some loose ends to continue off for the second season. Jax's friend Opie had just lost his wife because of a botched assassination attempt. Clay asked his right hand man Tig to assassinate Opie as they thought he ratted out the Sons of Anarchy to federal officers. Little did they know Agent Stahl had orchestrated the misunderstanding. She had created the infighting within the club. Tig accidentally kills Opie's wife instead because of a series of random events.

Meanwhile Jax is a new father and has developed a relationship with an old flame Tara who is a surgeon at the hospital. Little did he know that Tara had a federal agent stalker who was making her life miserable. Needless to say by the end of the season, the stalker was taken care of.

The second season starts immediately after the first season. Tig and Clay fight the guilt they have for killing Opie's wife. Jax's relationship with Tara continues to get stronger. I'll try not to spoil the second season because a lot happens during the time the two develop their relationship.

I like how the first season fleshed out who the characters are. It gives us a good understanding of each of their personalities and how they would deal in situations. Now in the second season they go along much more smoothly because there's no need to explain the character's motivations. We're aware of the infighting between certain characters now. Boy do they go into the infighting aspect of the characters.

The second season outshines the first season and rightly so. This is how a second season should play out. There are a few new characters that come up in the second season but not too many that you start to get dizzy trying to remember all of the characters. The town of Charming still feels like a small town where everyone knows everyone. However the new antagonists in this season are particularly despicable. They really hooked me in with their atrocious acts. Meanwhile the gang keeps everything to themselves thinking that they'd hurt others if they explain what is really going on. I guess this is the usual trope that we find in other running TV series like Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones.

When the truth comes out, it's a sigh of relief because you see how everything plays out and it is great. There are a few shocking scenes throughout the season that will have you at the edge of your seat. Overall I really liked this season. I would give this season an 8.5 out of 10. There were a few corny things that happened that dropped the score a little but overall a great season.
