My Review of Season 3 of 'Sons of Anarchy'

Another week and another Sons of Anarchy review. I’m really binging this thing like there’s no tomorrow. This time we’re at season 3. Just when I thought they already upped the ante they raise the bar even further. I had no idea where they were going to go with this season because season 2 wrapped up with that crazy cliff-hanger at the end.

Let’s recap. So season 2 was all about this new mastermind kingpin developer Zobelle. He played Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club Redwood Original (SAMCRO) like a fiddle. It’s a whole new game. Clay and the rest of SAMCRO are used to the same savage tactics that they’ve used in the past to get things done but Zobelle used this to his advantage and wanted them to react to his wrongdoings. Jax knew better and turned it all around. He knew that being reactive isn’t necessarily the best thing anymore they have to plan ahead regardless of how much disrespect their club was experiencing.

In the end, Zobelle and his minions got what they deserved. The horrors that the club experienced won’t be forgotten. Each one of the characters had a very important role in the unraveling of the season. Some of the consequences of the first season continue to linger in the second season. Clay and Jax have a very tumultuous relationship in the season as they continue not to see eye to eye on important issues. Their bickering made viewers wonder what was going to happen to the club. In the end pretty much all of the bad guys die. The cliff-hanger had half sack die at the hands of the Irish gangster Cameron who runs off with Jax’s baby because he believes Gemma murdered his boy Edmond. I thought this was pretty far-fetched seeing as no one really trusts agent Stahl and that these gangsters have a code that they’ve all followed. Not taking into account they’ve all known each other for years so it is really outside their personalities to do these things. Cameron should have known better but nevertheless I ignored this and just went with it.

The third season starts right where they left off. Jax is lost and totally out of it. The club is in a dire position as their matriarch is in hiding because agent Stahl had framed her for the murder of Edmond. They’re all under full surveillance and Jax’s boy is in nowhere to be found. There were parts of this season that really got me angry and frustrated but by the end of the season I got a better picture of what their motives were and why things unravelled the way they did.

I have to say though the season started with a bang. There was an unexpected thing that happens in the beginning of the season that had me shook. Probably as shook as I was when they killed off half-sack at the end of season two. I was definitely not happy about that. There are a few new additions to SAMCRO and a number of minor characters.

They really had me wondering what was going to happen this season as there were a couple deals that I didn’t think could be made but made sense for them to happen. I’m sorry for sounding cryptic but I don’t want to ruin it for anyone watching the second season. I found this season messed with me more than the last two seasons. It was enjoyable because I didn’t know what was going to happen and a lot of unexpected things happened. A lot of the characters have changed in personality and I liked this because it showed that the characters were growing and the experiences they had in the previous two seasons have affected them.

Overall I would give this season a 7.5 out of 10. I didn’t like the first few episodes only because I didn’t like some of the characters actions but they really ramped it up closer to the end of the season. I don’t think it was as strong as the second season but still very enjoyable. There are a lot of changes because of this season so I can’t wait to see what’s in store for season 4.
