South Park Season 20: The Story Continues, With Several Plots To Follow

Is the new linear style of storytelling on South Park something you could invest in? Or is the story-telling getting in the way of the really hilarious moments?

There's no doubting the notion anymore, South Park has reached a new age with its linear style of development. South Park's 20th Season has laid down the foundation for a new type of series to unfold in an episodic story of connected episodes, culminating in one conclusive end. And it looks like the first three episodes of Season 20 have more than hinted at where the South Park story is going. Of course, we don't really know because when has South Park ever been predictable?

From the outrageous to the topical, South Park oozes with comedic gold in every episode and somehow the creators of South Park, Trey Parker and Matt Stone have found a way to continue delivering the same laugh-out-loud comedy, while at the same time telling a chronological story devoted to topical humor.

Season 20, Episode 3 "The Damned" brief recap:

In the latest episode of South Park, the plot of the season was revealed through continuous callbacks to various moments, from the only two episodes that have aired this season. Then within the first few minutes of episode three "The Damned", we revisit the several moments from episode two which saw Cartman meet Twitter homicide. There's also the on-going presidential election which Garrison should have totally botched but he's still winning, despite explicitly telling everyone to vote for his opposition. And we also revisited Gerald Broflovski's excellent trolling that reached new heights.

Taking into consideration all these callbacks and several other nods to moments past this season, the plot of Season 20 appears to be following the trolling habits of Twitter users and the on-going presidential election that'll very likely result in the parodied version of Trump (Mr. Garrison) winning the election, only to be usurped from his role right before he takes the presidency. That being said, here are some of the plot-threads that'll likely be explored throughout the rest of Season 20. Take a seat, it's gonna be a bumpy ride.

Gerald Broflovski's trolling fame reaches new heights when he's the cause of an actual suicide.

In the latest news on Gerald, he's apparently become known on several talk shows for his obsessive trolling of women. During the episode "The Damned", Gerald takes his trolling one step further. He decides he's going to make an olympic athlete commit Twitter-suicide but Gerald's plan doesn't go as planned. Unfortunately, Gerald's trolling of the athlete results in the athlete actually committing suicide which leads to Gerald freaking out over the incident. In response to news of the person he trolled committing suicide, Gerald panics and begins erasing all the data on his computer. Nothing comes of the situation during the episode titled, "The Damned" but we can expect episode four to follow up on Gerald's over-the-line trolling habits and possibly see Gerald face up to the repercussions of incessant trolling.

The Presidential debate continues and Garrison knows he shouldn't be president.

Probably one of the best moments from "The Damned" depicted Garrison standing up at the podium during a presidential debate. During the debate, Garrison (who is supposed to be a parodied version of Donald Trump) explicitly tells his audience not to vote for him, and explains how bad it would be for the country to elect him president. But the crowds continue to applaud. Even after Garrison persuades the audience to vote for the opposing party, they still continue to rally and jeer Garrison on. No matter what Garrison says, they follow his every word. He goes on to call himself some unsavory names while saying all kinds of insults to the audience.

Remember the 'member-berries?

Yes, they're back. What the hell are the member-berries? The premiere episode of Season 20 introduced the member-berries as this type of stimulant for people just to laze back and look it. Episode two followed the same construct and depicted several South Park characters indulging on member-berries. And it's no surprise that episode three also included the member-berries but in the episode, a hint alluding to the member-berries' continued purpose on the series was exposed when Randy Marsh went searching for answers as to what the member-berries existence means.

Heidi and Cartman become friends, gets laid?

During episode three, titled "The Damned", Cartman and Heidi Turner become unlikely friends. Well since they both lost all lines of communication to Twitter and social media, they now share something in common. And that shared interest has led to the two becoming friends. Throughout "The Damned", Cartman and Heidi spent quite a lot of time together, doing the normal things people would do if those people didn't spend all day on Twitter and social media. Their conversations poke fun at the notion of people being so self-isolated that losing touch with Twitter is virtually the same thing as committing suicide. But eventually, Heidi and Cartman begin to have natural conversations which sees them expressing emotions again. Then in the final scenes of the episode, Eric Cartman opens up to Heidi Turner in the most symbolic way.

Cartman goes on to ask Heidi a question, which adds a nod to a previous episode this season where Cartman made the false-claim that girls have balls at the bottom of their vaginas. And the question was in regards to what girls are scratching when they don't have balls. Of course, the biggest surprise came in Heidi Turner's response when she offered to show Cartman what girls have at the bottom of their vaginas. It looks like Cartman is going to be playing doctor in the next episode of South Park, and he's definitely going to know what a girl has in between her legs before the episode concludes. But will Cartman and Heidi go a little further than just "playing doctor"?Is the new linear style of storytelling on South Park something you could invest in? Or is the story-telling getting in the way of the really hilarious moments?
