'Spider Man: Far From Home' Is a Delightfully Entertaining Superhero Film that Doesn't Quite Top Its Predecessor

Before I watched this movie, I thought it was about time to watch all of the other Spider-Man movies, and here are my quick thoughts.

Spider-Man (2002) was good, Spider-Man 2 was great, Spider-Man 3 was hilariously atrocious, The Amazing Spider-Man was passable but not good, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was bad, Spider-Man: Homecoming was good, and Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse was the best of all of them.

But anyways, here's the review!

Spider-Man: Far From Home is a superhero film written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers and directed by Jon Watts. The film is a sequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming and follows Peter Parker after the events of Avengers: Endgame.

In this film, he goes on a school trip to Europe, but it gets cut short by the arrival of Nick Fury, who recruits him to help save the world alongside a new hero named Mysterio, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal.

I'm glad to say that I really liked this movie. Now, this movie isn't anywhere near as good as Endgame or anything; in terms of Marvel movies, this movie is pretty average.

But in terms of superhero movies in general, this is a really good film. I stand by my opinion that Tom Holland is the best incarnation of Spider-Man that we have and his performance is really good in this film.

A scene that called out to me in particular was a scene with Peter on a plane and he's crying, regretting the events that have happened in the past and the mistakes that he's made, and I thought his performance in that scene was really emotional.

This movie also throws Mysterio into the mix, portrayed by Jake Gyllenhaal. I think Gyllenhaal is a very talented actor and I thought he gave a fantastic performance in this film as Mysterio. He was incredible as this character.

I think this movie also had a great sense of humor, especially when catching us up on the events that happened in Infinity War and Endgame, but from a high schooler's perspective, which I found to be very entertaining.

And I did enjoy how this movie could feel a bit smaller scale at times, since the main characters are high school students, and like many students in high school comedies, Peter has to deal with the macho guy, the asshole, and the girl he has a crush on, and I thought that was all handled really well.

But this movie isn't perfect and I do like Homecoming a little more than Far From Home because I have a couple of issues with this movie.

Firstly, I felt like the action scenes in the film, while fun and entertaining, were forgettable, and they all looked very similar. It was mainly just a bunch of big monsters and Mysterio and Spider-Man fight the monsters. The action in this movie never got any more unique and different.

Also, not everything in this movie exactly makes sense. Peter Parker spends a lot of time in this film away from the class that he's on the school trip with, and the teachers don't seem to notice or get worried or even look for Peter.

There also weren't any of Spider-Man's quips. Spider-Man is known to make a lot of jokes even when fighting bad guys, and I don't think he made a single quip in the entire movie. And it was a bit disappointing that the 1960s Spider-Man theme never made it into the film once.

We also had another scene where Peter was on a train, and then in the next scene, he finds himself in a different location, and it's just very unclear how he got there.

And I do feel like these Spider-Man movies are never gonna reach their full potential and become one of Marvel's better franchises if they don't go in any darker places with the story. I'm not saying I want Spider-Man to be dark and depressing, but I want them to explore the character a bit more and maybe take the story and stakes on a darker path.

Because while I really like the Spider-Man character, I never felt like his character had a good character arc in this movie and I didn't quite see how his character evolved as a result of the events that occur in this movie.

However, I still do like this movie, and as I said, this movie is really entertaining. I thought Happy Hogan provided a good amount of humor and emotion to this film, and I like what this film did with the supporting characters.

And I also really like the way they used Mysterio's powers, and how this film was able to connect to previous films and be unpredictable with the way certain events unfold. I also thought the villain was much more powerful than Vulture.

This movie wasn't disappointing, but it's not like Spider-Man 2 or anything. It's just a good Spider-Man film that doesn't exactly improve on the original, but remains very entertaining and fun for a superhero film.

I'm gonna give 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' an 8/10 (B).

Thank you so much for reading and I should be back ASAP with a ranking of all the Spider-Man films.

OH, AND DO NOT LEAVE WHEN THE CREDITS START! THE END CREDITS SCENES ARE AMAZING AND YOU NEED TO SEE THEM!
