'Spider-Man: Homecoming': Is Marvel Bringing Us Amadeus Cho?

In what's turning into a big day for Spidey fans, two more actors have been added to the rapidly growing cast list of Spider-Man: Homecoming.

While we reported last week that Logan Marshall-Green will be joining the cast as a secondary villain that some speculate to be the Tinkerer, Martin Starr is also joining the movie in an as-yet-unknown role.

However, those of you who boast long cinematic memories may remember that Starr already played a role in the Marvel Universe. Now, I know what you're going to say: "That was not Amadeus Cho. The character referred to was unnamed, credited as Computer Nerd." Starr was indeed credited in 2008's The Incredible Hulk as "Computer Nerd," the Culver University student who happily granted a disguised Bruce Banner access to the computers in exchange for pizza. But let's not forget how extensive the Marvel Cinematic Universe is.

Though credited in that movie as "Computer Nerd," the novelization of the film revealed him to be Amadeus Cho. I'm sure it depends on who you talk to about whether or not the film novelization is truly something to take stock in, but I don't think it's a coincidence that Starr is back for another slice of the Marvel pie. Nor do I believe it was coincidence that Helen Cho was involved in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Something is building, so I just want to put it out there now: I think Amadeus Cho will be in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Who Is Amadeus Cho?

Despite being a high school dropout, in the comics Cho is depicted as the seventh smartest man in the world. Close friends with the Hulk and Hercules, Cho has had many adventures with them in the past, including his own run-ins with S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers. With the use of special nanites, Amadeus is currently the new Hulk after absorbing his power to transform from Bruce Banner.

According to Amadeus Cho's Marvel Wikia page:

When the boy was fifteen years old, the Excello, a soap corporation, announced an online game to reward young geniuses, a quiz show named Brain Fight. Amadeus participated, and he easily won the $5,000 reward, placing first. Helen and Philip of course were happy for their son’s results, but they didn't know this was just the beginning of the end for their family. The person who had organized Brain Fight, in fact, was another genius and former child prodigy, Pythagoras Dupree, whose real aim was to search the world for other people whose intellect might rival his own…and to eliminate them as unwanted rivals. By winning his game, Amadeus Cho had been awarded with the title of Mastermind Excello.

Perhaps Amadeus Cho could be the Reed Richards replacement of the MCU, even explaining the Spider-Verse to the Avengers.
