Spider-Man is Joining the MCU: Could We See Him In An Avengers Post-Credits Scene?

Spider-Man is finally coming to Marvel.

Spider-Man is finally coming home to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, pretty much anybody who has looked at my twitter feed for more than 5 minutes (if it even takes THAT long) will have worked out that this news makes me a very happy Alex indeed.

I think Marvel will get it right, that's not to say I didn't enjoy [The Amazing Spider-Man](movie:45497) films, it just seems that Marvel have a clear direction of where they want to go with their films and how the stories will play out.

When the Sony leak happened at the back end of last year, I remember looking with interest at the plans Sony had for Spidey, and part of me just didn't feel quite right about it, it seemed that their ideas weren't fully formed and were just out there to prevent Marvel from using him at all. And the fact that they had initially rejected the idea of a collaboration with Marvel obviously didn't sit right with a lot of people (including some higher ups at Sony).

Now though, the agreement has been made and it means that Marvel can go ahead with their initial plan for the Captain America: Civil War film. Having read the source material this is great news to me as Spidey is basically the headline name in the story. As a brief overview if you haven't seen it Captain America and Tony Stark disagree about the Superhero Registration Act, wherein all superheroes will be required by law to reveal their identity to the public, Stark backs the idea and Cap is against it (which was quite a development in itself, the "all American hero", the paragon of justice, Captain America, disagreed with the government). Throughout the story various heroes ally themselves with Iron Man and Cap, and ultimately the headline is that Peter Parker reveals to the world on live television that he is Spider-Man, and has been since he was 15.

Who will be the man behind the mask?

What I would love to see, but it will never happen, it couldn't possibly happen in this day and age for a number of reasons, paparazzi leaks from the set, marketing etc, is that Marvel do not reveal who they cast as the new Spider-Man. I'd love to see them keep it a secret until the moment in the film where he takes off his mask and reveals to the world who he is. It would be a great piece of cinema for the audience to have this reveal at the same time as the characters. However, it couldn't possibly happen nowadays, but I can dream.

I do feel a little bit bad for Andrew Garfield, he definitely was a great Spidey, but I do understand Marvel wanting to go in their own direction as well. People's argument that AG is too old at 31 to play Spidey is moot really, as 30+ year olds have played teenagers for years on television, but that is beside the point.

I am looking forward so much to Civil War now that Spidey is back where he belongs, and who knows, maybe Spidey could appear in a post credits scene in The Avengers: Age Of Ultron.

A man can dream...
