Spy Another Day: 'Kingsman 3' In The Works — Here's Why It Should Head to Space

It was brief, but Vaughn confirmed that there were already plans to turn his sequel into a threequel and continue the legacy of 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Are we ready for more R-rated action courtesy of #MatthewVaughn? While Kingsman: The Golden Circle is yet to even hit cinemas, it looks like the spy-thriller is already queuing up a third entry. It may not be rivalling Bond as his 25 films, but there is still plenty of appetite for bacon and Eggsy in the morning.

#TaronEgerton will be back as the suave wheeler dealer, as will Vaughn, who announced the news during a London press event for 20th Century Fox. It was brief, but Vaughn confirmed that there were already plans to turn his sequel into a threequel and continue the legacy of 2014's Kingsman: The Secret Service.

Three's a Crowd

Those in attendance got a sneak peak of the first third of The Golden Circle and then Vaugh addressed the audience:

"Weirdly while we were writing Kingsman 2, we were thinking of Kingsman 3 as well, which is odd,” said Vaughn. “We’ve got a big idea for that. This is sort of the bridge and if we can pull this off, we’ll make another one.”

Given the all-star cast of both films, we have already seen the likes of Mark Hamill, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore take to the spy genre. Although Vaughn remained tight-lipped on another film, he did drop one huge spoiler on what to expect:

“No one will predict where Eggsy winds up [at the end of The Golden Circle].”

A cryptic teaser indeed, but one that implies we will be faced with a cliffhanger ending akin to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. It at least confirms that Eggsy will survive his second round of spy school (unless that ending is the morgue), but beyond that, we are as blind as Harry Hart is in one eye!

The Golden Circle will be introducing the American Statesmen, so introducing another country of spies may be a little passé. We can only assume that Kingsman 3 will visit some exotic new location to fit with Vaughn's "unpredictable" promise, so why don't we prepare to blast off into space?

Moonraker

It is easy to draw comparison between the Kingsman films and the James Bond series, especially if you think that Eggsy is just an Essex James Bond. We also had the villainous sidekick in Sofia Boutella's Gazelle from The Secret Service, while the trailer for The Golden Circle clearly shows us snowy mountain retreats and what looks to be a volcano lair. It is classic Bond fodder, so why not take it one step further? Looking to 007 for influence, head back to 1979 and Lewis Gilbert's Moonraker.

The divisive 11th Bond entry sent Roger Moore out past the exosphere and to Hugo Drax's space station. It was camp, it was melodramatic, and it gave us a larger than life villain - all things Kingsman is great at. You can just imagine the secret agents going up against some mustache-twirling maniac (possibly played by someone like John Cleese) and watching various grunts have their heads popped or blasted out an airlock.

A possibility or just a pipe dream? A big hint that we could be sticking on a spacesuit also relates to the seemingly impossible return of #ColinFirth as Harry Hart. The trailer may have spoiled the surprise of Harry's return, but if you look at where the resurrected Kingsman, Eggsy and Merilin seem to be, it appears to be a high-tech facility. It could just be some underwater Kingsman safe house, or it could neatly set up No. 3. Certainly, saving Harry for the film's climax would ensure that Firth doesn't overshadow the already booming cast of new and old additions.

We already know that Mark Millar is penning a second Kingsmen #comicbook, but its plot or even if it will crossover with the film series remains a mystery. All of this is a long way off anyway, so in the meantime, let's tool up, stick on a sharp suit, and team up with the Statesmen for Kingsman: The Golden Circle.
