Squad Goals AF: 'Suicide Squad' Actor 'Pretty Sure' She Won't Be Back For The Sequel

It looks like one of the Suicide Squad alumni has resigned themselves to the character scrapheap.

Say what you want about David Ayer's Suicide Squad, but the DCEU's villainous vacation certainly had us all talking — just maybe for the wrong reasons. It may have been a commercial success, but Suicide Squad detonated a neck bomb in the review stakes everywhere. Something just didn't quite fit, while the ensemble cast of #MargotRobbie, #WillSmith, and #JaredLeto jarred against each other. Sure, there were highlights like Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, but let's be honest, #SuicideSquad isn't exactly the jewel in the #Batman crown of anyone's DVD collection.

Hoping to learn from the mistakes of its predecessor, a sequel was quickly greenlit and #SuicideSquad2 is tentatively set for a 2019 release date. With favorites like Harley Quinn and Deadshot expected to return alongside a crop of newcomers (King Shark, anyone?), it looks like one of the alumni has resigned themselves to the character scrapheap.

The magic has worn off.

Speaking to USA Today it sounds like #CaraDelevingne is done with the franchise after just one entry. It is safe to say that Delevingne's entry into the #DCEU was memorable, but is that down to a bigger villain problem than the entirety of the MCU? So, have we really seen the last of Dr. June Moon?

In the interview, Delevingne said she hoped she could return, but it doesn't seem all that likely:

“It was a life-changing experience and, of course, I’d do another one, but I don’t think it would make sense for the character. I’ll probably still be on the set hanging out with everyone.”

Hmmm, that sounds like more than just an "I think" to me. Delevingne could well know that she has already been cut from the pack; however, with Enchantress remembered for that wavy arm dance and lackluster villain portrayal, is anyone really that bothered? Given the hopes surrounding Cate Blanchett's upcoming role as Hela in Thor: Ragnarok, Enchantress should be preparing to have the floor wiped with her, AGAIN.

Suicide Squad definitely dropped the ball by not featuring Leto's Joker as the main villain, which not only harmed the film as a whole, but Leto's premiere performance as the Clown Prince. We can only imagine that Mr. J would get a serious up on his screen time for Suicide Squad 2, so it makes sense to trim some of the wheat from the chaff — unfortunately, that means you, June. Elsewhere, Moon's mundane relationship with Rick Flag was another clanger from the feature, and to be honest, I kind of hope Delevingne takes Joel Kinnaman with her too!

Considering that the first film came out nearly a year ago, there has been very little movement on the sequel. We already know that Ayer has moved on to revive Harley Quinn for Gotham City Sirens — let's hope this fares better — while Suicide Squad 2 is still sans director. So far it is The Shallows director Jaume Collet-Serra who is the frontrunner to helm the sequel, but aiming for a mid-2018 production, the squad better start assembling themselves pretty quickly. However, if I were Amanda Waller, I would be terminating a fair few contracts from Task Force X.
