'Steppen' On Up: 'Justice League' Toys Give Our Best Look At Steppenwolf Yet
Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment, and Mattel have come together to create their own veritable Justice League and a line of toys ahead of the movie's release.
It looks like the DCEU is preparing to come together (right now) and put all its superhero eggs in one basket with the upcoming Justice League. Fresh off the back of Wonder Woman's critical acclaim, hopes are high that Geoff Johns and co. can deliver DC's equivalent of the Avengers and give their own expanded universe a kick up the backside.
The movie is still shrouded in a Batman cloak of mystery, but trailers show the sans-Superman team will have their hands full while taking on various Parademons and each other's egos. However, we do know that the Big Bad of the ensemble will be the villainous military man #Steppenwolf.
Warner Bros. Consumer Products, DC Entertainment, and Mattel have come together to create their own veritable #JusticeLeague and a line of toys ahead of the movie's release. Now, Entertainment Weekly has given us our best look yet at the Steppenwolf that will be locking horns with our hardened heroes.
A League Of His Own
We we know that Game of Thrones alumni Ciarán Hinds will be sticking on a horned helmet to play Darkseid's trusted general, the actual plot of Justice League is still rather vague. We do know that the film will presumably see Steppenwolf come to Earth to reclaim three lost Mother Boxes from the Amazons, the Atlanteans, and the Humans. Considering we have already had two blockbuster trailers, there is still no sign of a certain Man of Steel and barely a glimpse of Steppenwolf, however, the figures hint at what we can expect from Hinds's heinous performance later this year.
Note that Justice League's version of Steppenwolf seems to have ditched his signature facial hair from the comic books in favor of a bum chin. Also, his helmet has undergone a ferocious update and the live-action Steppenwolf looks a lot more alien than his classic depiction of a human-esque character.
First introduced by Jack Kirby in the '70s, Steppenwolf is a New God from the planet Apokolips who will mean big trouble for our newbie team of heroes. Fans had hoped that Darkseid would be the ultimate villain of the piece, but it looks like the #DCEU is doing a Thanos and saving him for a later date. In the meantime, Steppenwolf makes for a more than suitable replacement and can hopefully learn from the mistakes of Doomsday in Batman v Superman.
For those who want the full set, you can also purchase Batman's Flying Fox, but let's be honest, you'd all rather play as Steppenwolf, wouldn't you? With only months until Zack Snyder and Joss Whedon call on the League and prepare to take the box office by storm, here's hoping that Justice League won't be "steppen" on anyone's toes with another lackluster villain — only time will tell.
