A Collection of the Red Super Sentai Warriors

While Power Rangers is celebrating over 25 years on air, the show that inspired it has left it behind in terms of longevity. Super Sentai has been airing for over four decades, which is pretty insane when you consider it is a franchise that creates a new show with each passing year. The 43rd instalment, set to begin airing February 2019, has finally been revealed. Kishiryū Sentai Ryūsoulger translates to Knight Dragon Squadron Ryuusouger and is going to be the first Super Sentai series to use knights and dragons as the heroes theme.

The First Look at the Team and the Red Ranger's Zord

Shaking up the colour formation, the team is set to start with a Red, Blue, Black, Green and Pink Ranger, with the Pink being the only female on the team. The last time this line up was seen was back in 2013 with Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger. The team all have a sword with a dragon head at the top of the handle. Their helmets also appear to represent different dragons, which could indicate the dragons embodying different elements or species of dragon such as a Wyvern, Amphitere, Drake or Hydra.

The suits have a heavy amount of black, giving the team a darker colour scheme than the majority of past Rangers. But what is interesting is how each Ranger has a silver left arm. This is likely to play into the suit of armour worn by knights and makes it likely when a sixth Ranger joins the team they will sport a gold sleeve to contrast against the original team's design.

Promo poster reveals the Megazord

Through a promo poster, the first glimpse of the Megazord can also be seen. What is interesting is it is primarily red, black and silver. This indicates the Red Ranger is going to have a massive Dragon Zord at his command. What is possible, much like Zyuden Sentai Kyoryuger, is the Megazord will be formed by only three of the Ranger's Zords. This would mean the Red Ranger's Zord creates the majority of the Megazord with two others becoming either the arms or legs. When this has been done before, the other Zords give the Megazord new powers or weapons to use in battle, depending on which formation is created.

At the moment, we know nothing about the premise of the show. A synopsis has not yet been dropped, names of the heroes yet to revealed and what evil they will be facing has not appeared. But, we can expect a Super Sentai series away from the norm. The unique colour line-up with a single female Ranger, the never-used theme of Knights and Dragons and the look of the team has already created a buzz, and will make for an interesting season of Power Rangers if ever adapted for western audiences.

What are your thoughts on the next Super Sentai team? Do you like the theme of knights and dragons being used for the heroes look?
