As one of the more interesting Superbowl spots to air this year, the new trailer for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales provided us with our first good look at the film. The premiere trailer simply introduced Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), but this extended look at Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales gives us a glimpse at Hector Barbosa, Jack Sparrow, and the recently returned Will Turner.

In the image, Turner can be seen from the chest up, sporting some odd material on the side of his face, as well as on bits and pieces of his clothing. The material on Turner's clothes look like barnacles, similar to the growing appendages on Davey Jones' crew before Turner became the new captain of the Flying Dutchman.

Why Has Will Turner Become Barnacle Faced Like His Predecessor, Davey Jones?

If the growths on Turner's face are barnacles, that means he's placed his duty as captain of the Flying Dutchman aside for an undetermined purpose. For the negative effects of the Flying Dutchman to affect Turner and his crew aboard the Dutchman, he'd have to waylay his duties to the ship. The captain of the Dutchman is required to ferry the souls of those who die at sea to the afterlife but when the captain doesn't complete the task, he takes on a grisly appearance like Davey Jones.

In terms of why Turner would turn away from his duties all of a sudden are undetermined but it's possible Turner will make the decision to do so in the scenario of his wife, Elizabeth or their son, Henry being in danger.

Elizabeth Swann (Keira Knightley) is also returning for Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales so she could be the reason Will Turner has put his responsibility to the Flying Dutchman - but that's purely speculative for the moment.

For now, we can only make guesses as to why Will Turner has decided to leave his duties as captain of the Flying Dutchman in Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales but we should expect for the explanation to address where Will has been since Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World's End and why he's rejoining the war at seas. Although, Turner may be forced into the conflict due to the dead running rampant across the seas since it is Turner's duty to ferry the souls of the dead across the sea to the afterlife.
