I do not own the art or characters portrayed in this picture or in this post. All characters and art belongs to its respective companies.

If you are reading mainstream DC Comics that are under the DC Rebirth branding, then you probably know that Superman (Clark Kent) has a son named Jonathan Kent. And if you've been reading comics in the last decade or so, or even if you haven't, you probably know that Batman has a son named Damian Wayne, who is the current Robin.

Jonathan is a sweet 10-year-old boy who is always bright, happy, and optimistic. Oh, and he has Superman's powers too. He just doesn't know how to control those abilities,

Batman's kid, on the other hand, is a 13-year-old assassin that has definitely killed many, many people. Damian is dark, brooding, and principled. Now, what do you think would happen if these two were a team? Well, that's what Supersons does! The two legacy heroes in the making are so different from each other, which is what makes their dynamic so amazing.

But what I really loved about this story was the character development of the two characters. Damian Wayne has had a pretty difficult life. He was born into the life of an assassin, was trained by Talia Al-Ghul, Ra's Al-Ghul, and other members of the League of Assassins. And their training is brutal. The young Robin has killed many people as part of his training, and his life got a little better when Batman took him in at the request of Talia Al-Ghul. Except now this kid fights crime with his dad, who needs therapy as much as his teenage sidekicks do. Damian Wayne is a pretty serious kid who feels that he has something to prove to his dad and grandfather. For Damian, nothing is funny, everything is serious, and everything must be taken seriously. That's where good ol' (young actually) Jonathan Kent (Superman) steps in.

Jon was raised on a barn by Superman and his wife, famous reporter, Lois Lane. Jon grew up knowing that his dad was Superman, and that was always a secret he would need to keep. Eventually, he developed his Kryptonian powers and became Superboy, and found that this too was a secret he needed to keep from people. As he develops his abilities he becomes unsure as to why he needs to follow his parents' rules on powers, not because he can use them for evil, but because of how useful they are and easy they make things. Superman also taught Jon to stand up for what he believes is right, to be polite, and to fight for the little guy. He is a sweet kid that likes to have fun and sees the world through a child's eyes.

However, when Jon and Damian first meet, they hate each other. In fact, they fought so hard that their parents put them through a test that would force them to work together. Since then, the two have become a very capable duo when it comes to fighting crime. The most interesting part when it comes to the characters' dynamic, is that they both learn from each other, and are each a tool for the other's character development. Damian teaches Jon that not every situation is a situation that he should take lightly just because he has powers. He teaches Superboy stealth tactics, but also exposes him to the world away from his farm home. Damian shows him that the world can be a sick and evil place with sick and evil people. Jon, on the other hand, teaches Damian how to make and keep friends, how to be a good friend, and how to care about someone other than himself.

I think it would be interesting to see how the characters grow throughout their publication. I think that they could become an unstoppable force nearing the same level as their parents. I'll keep posting about these guys when something important about them comes up. Until then, feel free to look at my previous posts, and my upcoming posts will be out pretty soon.
