“M3GAN” - My Thoughts 💭
“M3GAN” is a light and kooky cautionary tale of our relationships with and reliance on technology and how this tends to get in the way of our much needed human relationships. This comedy/horror seems to be getting way too much acclaim and I’m not quite sure why. Have you seen it’s score on Rotten Tomatoes?! It’s at 94%! Yes - it is amusing, but it’s all been done before and possibly better than this.

I first heard the term “California Gothic” in the bonus features of the Spider Baby DVD. Jack Hill’s weird comedy horror from the 1960s fits the bill because it’s set in a creepy old house in California. But is that it? Is that all it takes for a film to be considered “California Gothic?”

As a master storyteller, Steven Spielberg has entertained audiences for decades with his movies that range from science fiction to historical dramas, action-adventures to comedies. With his latest offering, "The Fabelmans," Spielberg takes a different approach by creating a fictionalized memoir that offers a personal reflection on his own life and work. The result is a beguiling movie that offers us a stunning critical insight into the world of cinema and how artists cauterize childhood pain and rewrite their youth.

The animation in "Strange World" is top-notch, with vibrant colors and creative designs that showcase a large amount of sprightly energy. There are even moments where the film takes on different animation appearances, adding to its unique style. The voice cast is pitch-perfect, with Dennis Quaid standing out as the legendary yet selfish Jaeger Clade. His voice performance reflects the character's larger-than-life personality, adding to the humor, drama, and heroism that are perfectly balanced throughout the film. The sidekicks are also amusing and supportive, adding to the overall appeal of the movie.

Darren Aronofsky’s The Whale is getting glowing reviews all over the world, and rumor has it this success could earn Brendan Fraser his first Academy Award as a leading actor. Well deserved, of course, as he delivers a compelling and poignant performance during the 117 minutes of the movie.

I just came back from watching Ant-Man and The Wasp and was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable the movie was. Despite the hate it has been receiving, this film is one of the better offerings from Marvel in recent times. While the movie does have its flaws, such as cringey dialogue and some actors not quite hitting the mark with their performances, these issues didn't detract too much from my overall enjoyment of the film.

Note: This is actually very old! Quite a while ago when I first watched this movie I found it so ridiculous that I narrated my reactions to my friends in real time. I rediscovered it recently and though it was still funny so here it is for posterity, hope it entertains somebody else as well. ;)
