The 80s Is My Decade

If choosing what time you can grow up in was an option, the 80s is where I'd be.

Not only do I consider the 80's as my decade but I consider it the greatest decade

There are so many things that I loved when I was 12. Movies, acting out movie scenes at school, taking some naps when I get home from school, listen to music on my CD player (I was probably the last kid to have a CD player since mp3 players and iPods were blowing up), even goofing off with my friends in class and at lunch but one thing I'll never forget is discovering more of the 80s for the first time.

I already grew up with some of the 80s as a kid. Michael Jackson was always playing on the stereo or we were watching some of his music videos, my mom was always blasting Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" or "How Will I Know," went to a record store a few times, my dad was always watching Arnold Schwarzenegger movies like Commando and The Terminator, I was introduced to Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom along with Steven Spielberg's movies, and I even snuck my mom's CD that she made with songs from the 80s on it.

My mom knows her music, that's for sure.

So when my interest in the 80s peaked, it was time for me to do some digging and holy hell, I found some gold. I was in junior high (middle school) and I already had to wake up early for school but every morning even on the days I didn't have school, I would watch Saved by the Bell for at least 15 minutes when I had school (but for an hour when I didn't), and yes, I may have enjoyed hanging out with the gang but damn it, I loved Kelly so much! I still do! In the midst of me loving Saved by the Bell, my father figure caught on to how much I love the 80's and ended up showing me one of the greatest vampire movies, The Lost Boys.

I was so lost in the 80s, I honestly forgot that I was in 2007. I was even lost in watching those VH1 specials, I Love The 80's during the weekends whenever they were on. The only time I gave the 80s a break was to watch, Mission: Impossible III and I barely watched that alone. Every day when I got home from school, I was either listening to my mom's CD on my radio with a CD player or watching, The Lost Boys. I loved the music of that movie so much, I loved the vampires, I loved that I didn't actually see them until at least the middle of the movie, and of course, I loved Star.

One day, which became one of the greatest days of my life, I was watching TV one day and flipping through channels. I ended up watching Back to the Future Part II and damn, did I love that movie! I loved it so much, it was all I was able to talk about for at least two months. I ended up finding out that two of my friends hated the movies and to be honest, how the hell can you hate the Back to the Future movies?

Anyway, I had a math teacher who had an assistant that recommended the rest of the movies to me plus the assistant always told me that the first one was her favorite. I saw the third movie almost instantly since it was always on the movie channel Encore but getting my hands on the first one was the hardest and eventually, I got to it.

After my quest for the Back to the Future movies was over, I ended up getting the whole trilogy as a gift for Christmas and my parents became a huge influence in my love for the 80s even though they always were but my quest for the Back to the Future was over because my quest for the 80s was just beginning and here I am now, still going strong.

I had a dream I was actually living in the decade, I watch documentaries about it when they're on and I get the chance, I'm in the middle of watching Family Ties, and I pretty much lost my shit when I finally got around to watching Ready Player One.

This was definitely something hard to write because I still love the 80's and there is so much I want to say about stuff that I experienced because there was so many I wanted to bring up like watching, Die Hard and Lethal Weapon for the first time, finally getting to watch The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and how Rocky III and Rocky IV played a huge part in my stubborn attitude I have today, how I had emotional experiences with "When Doves Cry" by Prince, "In The Air Tonight" by Phil Collins, and "I Want to Know What Love Is" by Foreigner.

So much gold came out of the 80s and everyone likes to look at me like I'm insane for saying I'd love to go back to that decade.
