The Bad Pup

Greed hurts everyone

Patton had returned to the corner with some bacon. On the corner, he found the blue blanket that had been familiar to him for not too long, but still long enough for him. He lifted it to reveal the three puppies still there. You see, Patton was a man with a big heart, yet it wasn't enough to get him out of such a bad neighborhood. When he found the blanket covering the little puppies that were red, green, and purple, he knew he couldn't just leave them abandoned, and he couldn't bring them home, so he stayed at the corner to take care of them until he had to get to work to earn more, or pick up more food for himself and the pups. The red puppy woke up first, so it was the first one to imprint on Patton, and they were just waiting for the little guy's brothers to wake up and do the same.

Patton brought over more than enough bacon, even though it was a small amount, since he knew the other two puppies would wake up at any point. The little green puppy woke up, and looked at Patton before looking over at his red-hued brother. The red pup extended his head so that the green one could have his half of bacon. However, the green puppy proved to be a fast eater and pretty desperate, so it snatched away the half the red puppy was already munching on. Patton wasn't sure if he should scold the pup since they were abandoned and, he expected, extra hungry. Before he could say anything, the green puppy yapped and barked until Patton gave him some of the bacon for himself. The green puppy munched the extended piece, and the piece in Patton's other hand. Patton was surprised, but he looked at his hands and covered the puppies back up before going to get more food for them.

The green puppy looked at his red brother, and his purple sleeping brother when, suddenly, a thought came to him: once Patton came back and the purple puppy woke up, there would be much less bacon for the green puppy to have than before. The green puppy didn't like that thought one bit. With his nose he shoved his sleeping puppy towards the street and continued to shove him until he was pushed off the sidewalk and disappeared with a little splash that echoed back up to his ears. He angrily glared at his red brother who looked at him shocked. He tried pushing his red brother with his nose, but wasn't successful as the little guy was standing his ground. As an alternative, the green puppy bit the red ear, and dragged his brother towards that part of the street. When they got closer to the street, growls erupted from the green pup and panicked yelps left the red pup's mouth. Eventually, the red puppy was dropped off the edge of the sidewalk and a yelp echoed up to the green ears followed by a familiar splash.

Suddenly, new sounds made their way to the pup's ears: a faint revving and gunshots. Everyone around the pup rushed into the nearest buildings and locked the doors behind them. No one was still outside... except for Patton with more bacon. Patton heard the gunshots, and hid in a nearby alley. He peeked his head out of the alley to see the yapping green pup, but his brothers were gone. He teared up while expecting the worst, but from that and the gunshots, he felt more determined to help make sure the remaining puppy was taken care of and safe. Patton ran towards the yapping little puppy with the bacon in his grip. Just as he was a foot away from cuddling the pup, a gunshot was heard followed by a thud and a larger splash. The green puppy saw the man who briefly took on the role of his father lying on the sidewalk with his face down and empty handed. He walked all over the man for any sign that he was okay. Immediately, though, he heard the revving engine grow louder and louder, and the source of the gunshot getting closer and closer...
