The Big Bang Theory is one of the world's most watched TV series and is easily recognized around the world for its quirky and lovable characters. Following the lives of seven friends, the sitcom imaginatively injects celebrities into the show via unique guest roles. Some of these guests have included James Earl Jones, LeVar Burton and Leonard Nimoy. However, one star in particular was given a special role as a guest at Sheldon's birthday party. And that was TV's #Batman, Adam West.

The death of Adam West made headlines over the weekend, with the actor tragically passing away following a short battle with leukemia. West starred in The Big Bang Theory's 200th episode and was regularly referenced throughout the show. But what will happen to the original Caped Crusader's legacy within the sitcom? Will he live on or be written out?

Will Sheldon Find Out?

Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is a huge fan of the original Batman series and was clearly surprised and delighted to see #AdamWest at this birthday party. Throughout the series, Sheldon and co. have made reference to Batman in the most hilarious ways. During Season 2, Episode 4, "The Griffin Equivalency," following a fallout with Raj, Sheldon is asked to smile instead of making sarcastic comments. He practices his smile, mimicking the Joker's evil grin, showing that he's ready to destroy Batman.

Also, in Season 4, Episode 6, "The Irish Pub Formulation," Sheldon refuses to keep a secret as requested by Leonard, despite Batman and Alfred keeping secrets:

"You know I can't keep a secret! ... Alfred knows that Barbara Gordon is Batgirl. Which I've now just told to Batman! See, I cannot keep a secret!"

And more recently in the Season 10 episode "The Dependence Transcendence," the Flash suddenly arrives to talk to a sleeping Sheldon and explain to him that all superheroes drink energy drinks and take enhancing chemicals when saving the world. With the Hulk on steroids, Batman stalks the night looking for a fight following one too many glasses of scotch. The Flash gives Sheldon his very first energy drink for free because he decided to invest his money in #Marvel Comics, which is the Flash's rival comic book company.

With Batman being referred to many times in The Big Bang Theory, will the showunners write West out of the sitcom? Of course, now that Sheldon has met West, the older actor's death is likely to be a huge shock for him, and it might knock the wind out of his sales. On the other hand, if the writers choose not to write West out, this would mean that Sheldon can think Batman is still out there, protecting #Gotham like he should be.

Following West's sad passing, The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco paid her respects by posting to Instagram the following photo, along with a loving caption.
