The Comic Book History Of Enchantress From 'Suicide Squad'

Suicide Squad comes out in less than a month, so we're diving into the comic book history of its main characters to prepare for their live-action adventure and discover some of their essential storylines. Here's everything you need to know about the teammate/possible villain of the new movie.

Enchantress' Origin

At a costume party in the haunted Terror Castle, June Moone happened upon a secret chamber where a magical being empowered her to fight an evil presence within the castle. Enchantress ultimately wound up misguided and decided she longer wanted to fight evil, but instead heroes like Supergirl. Her villainous side eventually took over and she became a member of The Forgotten Villains and was a part of the supervillain army during Crisis on Infinite Earths.

After being recruited into the Suicide Squad, her first mission sent her over the edge and her villainous side took over completely, creating new problems for the Squad. Struggling to control both sides of her personality put June into difficult relationships with members of the team. Eventually, this internal conflict lead to her darker side being torn out by a demon and both June and Enchantress disappearing for a number of years.

Enchantress is a powerful sorceress, able to manipulate magical energy causing a variety of effects, from healing to teleportation. She can also walk through walls and affect non-living things with her magic.

Major Storylines For Enchantress

Enchantress' first appearance was in Strange Adventures Issue 187 in April 1966. Frequently depicted in the role of an anti-hero, she is seen in major storylines like Day of Judgment, where the two parts of June are explored more in depth. After Day of Vengeance, Enchantress joined a team of magic users known as the Shadowpact in order to combat a Spectre gone rogue.
