Recently, #SonyPictures surprised fans with the announcement of a Venom movie and while many might have hoped that would mean Venom would be joining #SpiderMan in the #MCU but it appears that isn't the case.
Sony's Venom exists in its own standalone universe.
Sony's Venom movie will instead exist in its own separate universe, outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. #Venom will not connect to Tom Holland's Spider-Man either, so for fans who might be hoping for a crossover, it may never happen.
Despite there only being a few known details about the Venom film, some new information about Spider-Man: Homecoming may have inadvertently revealed a few plot details about Venom.
In a report from Collider, a ton of facts related to Spider-Man: Homecoming were revealed. Among them came the indication of the Daily Bugle not being a part of the film.
For those who don't know, the Daily Bugle is a major location in both Spider-Man and Venom's sect of the Marvel universe. More importantlily, it appears the Daily Bugle won't exist in the MCU. The good news, however, is that the Daily Bugle's absence in the MCU could be because it will be a major location used in Venom.
Considering how Venom will likely follow Eddie Brock, the original incarnation of Venom, the Daily Bugle is a necessity to the origins of his character. In the comics, Eddie Brock wrote for the Daily Globe, a rival newspaper to the Daily Bugle. It was after being fired from the Daily Globe that Eddie Brock was set upon the path to becoming Venom.
Will the Daily Bugle be directly connected to Eddie Brock's origin in 'Venom?'
It would make sense for Eddie Brock to be depicted as a writer for the Daily Globe in Venom, along with competing for headlines against rival newspaper the Daily Bugle.
After all, it would be unwise for Sony to deviate much from his origin if the studio hopes to keep fans happy.
We will have to wait until Sony officially confirms the Daily Bugle as a set piece in its Venom universe, but it seems like a good possibility if Eddie Brock is indeed the version of the character they've picked to put on the big screen.
