All the latest stories and news and stories from the set has been that Emma will embrace the darkness and be the new big bad dark One in Season 5 of the show Once Upon a Time. I was excited about this, but latest reports have stated that Emma will not have embraced the dark side come season premiere, which will include a small time jump.

Robert Carlyle, who plays Rumplestiltskin and the one Emma took the Dark One power from, had this to say

“Episode 1, season 5, she is not the Dark One. Maybe she becomes that, but at this point, she’s trying to get rid of it. She’s trying to get rid of the dark magic at the moment.”

"But what about the sneak peek from Comic-Con?" You may be thinking to yourself. With this new news, I can imagine that perhaps it was a dream of Emma's, or one of her loved ones, imagining the worst of what she could become.

Jen Morrison, who plays Emma, has plenty to say about her struggle

“Before she’s surrendered to it and given into it, the good part of her is fighting with this darkness that is consuming her and it’s a constant struggle that’s really angsty and instense. In the surrender to the actual darkness, not necessarily the journey and the fight to try to stay light, she’s pretty different. I started by looking at all of her opposites, looking at everything that was opposite of what Emma stood for and opposite of what we’ve seen of her and trying to look at what that would mean.
“Emotionally, it’s interesting because there’s something really fun and free about Emma in the darkness, where she’s just free of the gravity of what other people think and the gravity of worrying about saving people. There’s a lightness, in a sense, in her darkness, because she doesn’t have to do the right thing and she doesn’t have to try to be the stronger, better person all the time. There’s a little bit of freedom in that that is really fun.”

She did a lot of studying for the part, both by the other people in evil roles before her, as well as researching old fairy tales.

The New York Public Library was amazing. A couple of the curators there pulled tons and tons of research of the psychology of certain fairy tales, some of the older more obscure fairy tales that we wouldn’t necessarily have in a normal storybook nowadays. There’s some really great parallels for Emma. I looked at a lot of research about swans in general and just tried to pull little things from mythology, and from fairy tales, and psychology of fairy tales to have a well of things to pull from. And then also some really personal things, trying to find things that I relate to in my own life that I can allow to be a part of Emma dealing with this darkness and try to have it be as personal as possible.”

While she does mention that she does get to wear the new tight outfits, some behind the scenes pictures found on twitter tell a different story.

The outfit is actually really similar to the one that Regina wore while she was jailed for trying to kill Snow White. With her having disappeared, perhaps she had allowed herself to be captured so as not to be a danger to anyone. On set this day, there were a lot of new things to discover. Granny's Diner had been moved to the woods.

And we found that the group was all being lead towards what looks like is going to be a CGI Camelot.

While they haven't been back in production for very long, and they very well may be shooting out of order, I can't help but be nervous that perhaps we might not be able to get to see Dark Swan for all that long before we are expected to see her back to her normal self. We know that Merlin is the key to breaking the curse, and while we have seen her in the skin-tight leather, seeing her in the regular clothes, for a criminal in the Enchanted Forest anyway, is a stark contrast from what we were lead to believe.

I wonder how the diner got there though? Maybe Emma transported them there? To be able to get to Camelot? It seems logical as we know that houses and people can travel by weather, and it looks to be in the same area that they are being led, presumably, by King Arthur to Camelot.

In the end, I really hope they don't make Emma good too soon. If that is going to be the case then they really missed an incredible opportunity to have an intriguing and established villain, and I will be sad to see the Dark Swan go.
