After last week's episode of The Flash briefly introduced Savitar to the Flash/Arrowverse, fans have been trying to figure out the true identity of Savitar since his origin on The Flash doesn't match up with his comic-book counterpart. That's not to say Savitar doesn't share similarities with his comic-book counterpart, the version of Savitar on The Flash could wind up being loyal to his comic-book counterpart once his identity is fully discovered. However, Savitar's identity might be a bit different than a cold war pilot struck by lightning; his identity in the comics.

Savitar, DC Comics

Savitar's appearance on The Flash is quite different from how he's depicted in DC Comics so it might his appearance that is the defining key in proving Savitar isn't "exactly" Savitar. Since the version of his character on The Flash looks a lot more like the Black Racer than he does, Savitar, the character could have some influence from both Savitar and the Black Racer. (The Black Racer also has the ability to take speed from others and return it to them, which is one of Savitar's signature abilities in the comics).

The Black Racer, DC Comics

Savitar's appearance in the comics gives him a full anatomical figure but the version of Savitar presented on The Flash seems to be made of fluid lightning, like the Black Racer. Aside from the character of Savitar potentially being rewritten for The Flash, it's his follow-up appearance that will set up the coming events of Season 3.

Savitar joins 'The Flash' and he has something against Barry Allen.

If you recall Savitar's auspicious entrance to Doctor Alchemy's den in last week's episode, he appeared shortly after the Flash and Joe West were able to detain Alchemy. Of course, Alchemy escaped during the tussle with Savitar. Then Savitar held Barry Allen up in a helpless position, that is bound to end badly. Considering that Savitar is retracting his blade from its sheath in the final moments of the episode, it seems as if Barry Allen might meet an early end at Savitar's hands.

DC Comics' History Of Savitar

In the comics, Savitar is a confused individual who stumbles upon the speed force by accident. Savitar was originally a Cold War pilot, struck by lightning during a routine mission, who then develops speedster abilities as a result of the accident. After the accident, he assumes his speedster abilities are a godly sign to use them for his own self-diluted purpose which forces Savitar to learn how to exercise his abilities efficiently. By harnessing his speed power, Savitar becomes an almighty speedster in the DC universe and creates the delusion of being a hindu god, hence the name, Savitar. When Savitar achieves a level of control over his speed, he develops speedster abilities beyond anyone else in the known DC' universe; Barry Allen being the exception at some points in DC history.

Savitar, DC comics.

Savitar's manipulation of speed goes beyond moving really fast. He can also take the speed of others and give additional speed to someone he wishes to grant it to. Although, Savitar's ability to grant speed to people and objects comes with a downside. Savitar's ability to manipulate the state and speed of an object allows him to propel an object at an accelerated speed, resulting in the object coming to a disastrous crash as soon as it's set in motion by Savitar. He can also force the inertia around an object to increase dramatically in speed at his whim. In terms of why Savitar's abilities are in question has to do with Savitar retracting his blade in that last scene with Barry Allen a.k.a. the Flash.

What does Savitar have in store for The Flash?

The scene is supposedly teasing Savitar killing Barry Allen but we all know that's not going to happen since the show is about "the Flash". However, Savitar might have something even more diabolical planned with that blade unsheathed. Instead of killing Barry, Savitar could decide to take his speed and add it to his own. One of Savitar's abilities allows him to take the speed from others so it could reasonably happen in the next episode. If Savitar is as psychotic as his comic-book counterpart, he could see a problem with allowing Barry Allen to continue using the speed force and decide to take those abilities from him.

Black Racer and Wally West, DC Comics.

Barry has already lost his speed once before and now's definitely not the time for him to lose it again, especially with Doctor Alchemy reigning down destruction on Central City. And now that Savitar has arrived, things are looking even more grim for Barry Allen. However, someone else might come to Barry Allen's rescue before Savitar subjects Barry to whatever insidious plot he has in mind, possibly a metahuman ally? But who could believably save Barry from Savitar?

Who can save The Flash?

Cisco Ramon a.k.a. Vibe is too far away to reach Barry Allen in time, and even if he did make it to Alchemy's den, he probably wouldn't be very much help to Barry either. And as for Caitlyn potentially saving Barry from Savitar, she's in the same position as Cisco - too far away to actively do anything. Although, there's one metahuman who might be able to save Barry Allen from Savitar, and that's Wally West.

Before Savitar appeared, Wally West took a hold of Doctor Alchemy's philosopher stone and it resulted in Wally being encased in a cocoon of sorts. The process wasn't touched upon during the episode but it seems like Wally gave his speedster powers a jumpstart by forming a cocoon around himself. We won't know how the cocoon will affect Wally but it's likely to leave a husk, similar to the others found by Julian Albert. If so, Wally's release from the cocoon could see him transformed into a speedster and he'd be in the near vicinity to help Barry Allen.

Is Wally West the next Speedster to Join 'The Flash'?

Some would discredit the notion of Wally West becoming a speedster in time to save Barry from Savitar but when we account for Wally having dreams/ visions of his Flashpoint life as Kid Flash, he already has the knowledge of being a speedster so those experiences would translate over to the current timeline.

Regardless of the potential for Wally to rescue Barry from Savitar, Savitar's unsheathed blade still appears to have quite a menacing purpose. We know Barry is still alive in this week's episode "Killer Frost", but it doesn't remove the possibility of Barry losing his speed to Savitar - that is, unless Savitar actually has a common interest with the Flash and his initial approach was taken out of context. We did see Savitar presumably kill Joe West's team of SWAT officers so it's not likely he's one of the good guys, but his intentions could still be noble in the long run of The Flash.

What do you think Savitar has planned for Barry Allen? Is Savitar here to help Barry with Doctor Alchemy? Or is Savitar one step away from taking Barry Allen's speed? And do you think it's possible Wally might be the one to step in and save Barry?
