Three’s a company, three’s a crowd, and three was the magic number for trios night this past week on Dancing with the Stars! Invited back to the ballroom were several alum of the show, along with a few fresh faces to add a little challenge to the choreography and contribute to the stars’ progress on the show. Here’s more about the threesome dances and how things worked out:

Geeking Out

I aim to write objective commentary, so I don’t intentionally encourage a certain way of voting or supporting a certain couple, but tonight’s elimination has me thinking a lot about where the votes could be going. Tinashe and Brandon’s scores haven’t been out of the top three since the season started, yet Joe and Jenna’s scores haven’t emerged from the “ballroom basement” as Tom Bergeron put it, and jeopardy hasn’t touched them. What I’ve called “fanbase voting” is almost all I can think about. Viewers are voting for the celebrities they follow or recognize from other entertainment, and die-hard celebrity fans are offering most or all their votes through the thick-and-thin of the competition, regardless of quality. Alternately, viewers could be voting for celebrities simply because they are the only ones they recognize from someplace other than on DWTS. Or quite possibly, a lot of “sympathy voting” has been at play, which could be easily expected after a theme like “most memorable years”, but is also unsurprising if they’re going to people like the constant lowest scorers. Joe must have an abundance in all these camps, to the point of his better cohorts appearing snubbed. I’d be interested in some social media conversation on the Writer’s Block about some viewers’ whos, hows and whys for their voting.

What's Next?

Need I say more than Disney Week?! Next week, Disney invokes its ownership over the network in support of one of the most fun themes of the season as the ballroom will be decked out Disney, the couples will be dressed out Disney, and dancing to Disney songs! Disney!!!!!

Halloween night should follow as the season’s midpoint, and a country-themed night is on the horizon too. Find your Mickey Mouse ears in time for next Monday night, recap weeks three, two, and one, go over the cast guide, and join the Writer’s Block to stay up-to-date on Dancing and more!
