The House Appreciation Series: Ravenclaw

The Third of a Four Part Series Featuring the Best of Each Hogwarts House

The first house that I was ever sorted into was Ravenclaw. I was absolutely thrilled because this happened during the era of the Potter fandom where Gryffindor was still considered mainstream, Slytherin was the bad guys, and Hufflepuff was nearly nonexistent. In my mind, Ravenclaw was perfectly unique — and I wanted more than anything to stand out.

That being said, I was sorted into Gryffindor just a couple of years later and eventually landed in my current house (which I'm sure you can guess by now). Of course, the fandom's views on the houses have changed a lot since my first sorting. Each house is represented equally and positively — which is fantastic. I would be proud to be a part of any Hogwarts house and I have been proud of each house I've been sorted into!

Now, when it comes to books, I am a TOTAL Ravenclaw. I love reading! Stepping into a library or a bookstore is like stepping into a whole new world. My dream is to have a home library with floor to ceiling bookshelves and thousands of books in all shapes and sizes. I imagine this is similar to what the Ravenclaw common room is like.

I adore Ravenclaws. They are clever, creative, and innovative in ways that I never could have thought of. My mom is a Ravenclaw and so are two of my favorite YouTubers — Tessa Netting and Brizzy Voices

Its seems like Ravenclaws get the blunt end of things in the Harry Potter series. Ravenclaws get next to nothing to redeem themselves. Even Hufflepuffs have Cedric Diggory and pride in the fact that all of the Hufflepuffs stayed for the battle of Hogwarts. What do Ravenclaws have? Cho Chang? Not that I have anything against Cho, but still.

Ravenclaws one shining, redeeming quality: Luna Lovegood

Luna is brilliant. She is one of the most unique and standout characters in the entire series. I have heard people before who questioned Luna's qualifications for belonging in Ravenclaw. To those, I say that Luna is not your typical Ravenclaw — but that does not mean she does not belong there. In fact, she displays many Ravenclaw qualities in her own individual way. She is constantly researching and attempting to discover new, exciting creatures. Her brain works on an entirely different level, allowing her to think creatively and come up with conclusions that other people couldn't reach. She is one of a kind and the perfect Ravenclaw hero.

The best parts of Ravenclaw house: Luna Lovegood, Ravenclaw's Diadem, Gilderoy Lockhart, and a common room full of books.

Fact: Human beings cannot be sorted into the following four categories: brave, cunning, clever, and kind. It just isn't possible. Which means there is much more to your everyday Ravenclaw than clever.

What I would add to this list: Ravenclaws are creative

Ravenclaws tend to think outside of the box. While most will acknowledge the house as smart or clever, this tends to only describe the surface. They are not simply book smart but innovative in every area of their lives. They are the best problem solvers and wonderful conversationalists. Ravenclaws are definitely the best people to discuss a good, outlandish Harry Potter theory with.

BONUS: Actress Allison Sudol is a Ravenclaw! She plays the adorable Queenie Goldstein in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

If you are a Ravenclaw or love a Ravenclaw, give this article a tip and a share! Also, look out for our final house in my House Appreciation series coming out in the next few weeks.

Last but definitely not least: Hufflepuff!
