Unless you've been sleeping under a rock, you'll know that Captain America: Civil War is out! Well, what you may not know is that Marvel has been tapping into the power of social media to give us extra insight into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Step up WHIH World News, which you can follow on Facebook or on Twitter. This news agency exists in-universe, and Marvel Studios use it to release quick video clips just before a film comes out. They posted interviews with Scott Lang and Darren Cross, for example, prior to the release of Ant-Man.

But it looks as though fans are in for a treat this week! Today, WHIH World News released the following special report:

The report is fascinating, adding a new wrinkle to the superhero story. It seems Black Widow's appearance before the Senate stirred the pot more than we'd realised, and may be an important detail in the backstory of the Sokovia Accords. Meanwhile, it's hinted that we'll be seeing content throughout the week, so we'll have to keep watching!

You can follow WHIH News on YouTube and Twitter!

Incidentally, notice the headlines scrolling at the bottom of the screen? Some look irrelevant, but others include:

  • Captain America inspiring a world-record marathon runner
  • A report on the questions left after Alexander Pierce's death in Captain America: The Winter Soldier - apparently another WHIH Special Report, but we'll have to wait and see whether or not it's published!
  • The US Vice President begins an outreach trip, with stops in Sokovia and South Africa (both of which were ravaged during the events of Avengers: Age of Ultron)
  • The retirement of General Thaddeus Ross

Again, this adds some twists to the narrative - so General Thaddeus Ross, plays a major role in Captain America: Civil War, has just announced his retirement? Very curious indeed.

My hat's off to Marvel for this creative engagement with fans. I'll keep you up-to-date on the latest news from WHIH as the week progresses, and it'll be interesting to see what else we learn...
