Seems like the original Busters are coming back in 2016 after all, which is exciting news for fans of the franchise.

The massively popular Saturday morning TV series The Real Ghostbusters, that ran from 1986 to 1991, is now coming to DVD.

Now, I know some of you will be shouting "Hey idiot! It's been out on DVD before." Well, firstly that's some attitude you've got Mister — and secondly, read on:

The VERY expensive Deleted Firehouse set

Back in 2009, Time Life released the above 'Firehouse' collection, which contained every episode of Slimer! And the Real Ghostbusters and The Real Ghostbusters.

Now deleted, the only place you'll be picking this up is probably eBay — and it won't be cheap.

So, here's the good news -- according to Bloody Disgusting:

"Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release over 50 episodes of the iconic 1980s animated series on DVD and Digital July 7th, from Ivan Reitman, DiC and Sony Pictures Television."

There's no news, however, on whether or not the episodes will be presented in HD format, but the news has us all hoping. Just announced yesterday was the 4k Ultra HD transfers of both original movies! I wonder what extra depth that'll add to the classics.

Hopefully there's more news on the DVDs — especially on extras — in the near future.

Oh, and since I can, one of my prized possessions is a personal signed picture of Maurice LaMarche a.k.a the voice of Egon Spengler, who was and is my favorite character in the series.

He really made that character real for me.
