The 'Will & Grace' Revival Is 'Not An Opportunity to Preach,' Says Series Co-Creator — The Story Will Speak For Itself

Will & Grace started airing on NBC while Bill Clinton was president, finished when George W. Bush was president, and now it's coming back with Donald Trump as president. So, many fans are curious as to whether our current political climate will affect the revival, as hinted by the election-centric promo that initially reunited the characters.

But series co-creator David Kohan, speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, assures audiences that Will & Grace is primarily back to entertain, not to make a statement:

"It's not an opportunity to preach. Anyone who needs to be preached to is not going to be listening, so that's not the purpose. And I don't think it's helpful, quite frankly, I really don't. If people are going to be entrenched in their positions, then telling them how to think is not going to change the way they think. It really is just about showing these characters — whom people like — living their lives in 2017. That really is the directive more than anything else or addressing anything else head-on politically."

Will there be political jokes on the show? Undoubtedly. During its run, the series never strayed from poking fun at ... well ... everything. With a character like Karen Walker — the boozy, demanding elite of the bunch — returning, it's inevitable that polite neutrality will go out the window. (In case you've forgotten, Karen wielded her sarcasm like King Arthur's sword, and anyone standing in between her and a bottle of vodka wasn't going to have a good day.)

If there was one thing the Emmy-award-winning show was known for, it was its ability to make people laugh, and there's no doubt that it's returning with that same intent.
