The Worst Video on YouTube

Oh, how humor has evolved throughout the years. Some people find classic humor (the likes of Richard Pryor or Steve Martin, even Abbot and Costello) to be far superior than the humor of today. “Modern day humor,” if you will, as controversial as it is, has opened new ground for some amazing comedians to showcase their talents. However, this ‘comedy’ video contains absolutely zero resemblance to anything humorous, with the exception of the guest star: a truly talented Gus Johnson.

Unless you are living under a rock, you should know the platform YouTube. YouTube is a video uploading site where creators can upload videos and potentially make money. One of these channels is called “Smosh Pit.” Smosh Pit, a company run by an older channel called ‘Smosh,’ rose to popularity after creating prank videos, sketches, and the infamous ‘Try Not to Laugh Challenge’ videos that every YouTuber and their mother has tried.

This video showcases their fifth in the ongoing ‘Try Not to Laugh’ Challenge video series, and it shows. There are five people in this ‘team’ and the goal of the video is for everybody to put on a little sketch for 30 seconds and try to make one person sitting in the hot seat to spit out water, making them laugh. While watching a humor video, you try to look for, you know, the funny parts of them. In this almost 17 minute video, there are exactly 4 funny parts. FOUR. And they all come from Gus Johnson. Gus Johnson is an extraordinarily unappreciated YouTuber. His videos are consistently original and hilarious. He shows his humor in this video, seeing as, again, he is the only funny part of the video.

The video starts out with a blonde horrifically singing, “Everybody wanna see my glans, yeah,” for about the first 10 seconds of the video, and then the studio logo. Good to see we’re off to a hilarious start. One of the members of the team says, “Our guest is much funnier than we are,” and god is he right. Now, onto the sketches and the “actors” in this video.

One of these actors, Courtney, has to be, hands down, the most unfunny person in any video that I have ever seen in my life. She has no idea what comedy is, she can’t do improv (which is what this entire challenge is), and she has absolutely no idea about the concept of what makes somebody laugh. In the first sketch that she does, she fumbles to even think of a name for the fake play that she puts on (and, when she does think of a name, it is garbage), and then proceeds to penetrate a fake butt with a sword, causing Noah (the person in the hot seat) to spit out all the water. I honestly have no idea how this made him laugh, unless he was being polite, but it really just was sad. Everyone of her sketches is exactly the same and she literally does the same exact sketch twice in a row, the second time being worse than the one before.

Another person in this show is named Keith. Keith’s humor relies on stereotyping his race and culture (Keith being a black man). The worst part about Keith’s humor is that he tries to be loud so that it appears funnier, like that fat kid that you knew in the fifth grade who really didn’t know how to tell a joke, so he thought being louder was funny. Again, every one of his sketches are bland and unfunny, yet everyone laughs at them, I assume just to get views.

Olivia, our second girl in this video, is right next to Courtney on the scale of unfunniness. Now, I’m not saying that women can’t be funny. There are plenty of funny women in the entertainment industry who make a killing and actually know how to produce a comedic affect. Both Olivia and Courtney are not funny. Therefore, they will not make funny content. One way that Olivia tries to get somebody to laugh is literally closing her eyes and facing the person for 30 seconds. Somehow, Keith laughs at this nightmare of an effort. It’s like she doesn’t even try, because she knows that none of them are funny anyway, so the littlest thing will make them laugh.

Shayne, the second of our three males that are on this team, thinks the best type of humor is either situational humor or ironic humor. The ironic part about this is that he does not know what ironic humor is, and he does not have enough comedic value to improvise a situational humor scene, thus rendering all of his sketches painfully unfunny and awkward. In one sketch he uses a fake phone to call Domino’s, says they’re his favorite pizza place, then hangs up. He then proceeds to call Pizza Hut, tells them they’re his favorite pizza place, then hangs up. He then proceeds to call the police, says he’s naked, which forces one of them to burst out with laughter. Again, a painfully awkward and unfunny scene. It’s funnier for me to explain it in this, than watching the actual video.

Our last male, Noah, contains about 95% of this group humor, which isn’t saying much. This guy has to be the funniest in the group, because he is actually aware of the value of comedy and what comedic affect is. The only problem is he’s not good implementing them. He looks goofy without any prop or funny outfit, therefore adding something will make him seem goofier, but he has the same affect as everyone else does: just bland, dry humor that is hardly funny and hardly original. The funniest thing he did was spit out the water since, you know, it’s people spitting out water, it’s a little funny in every context. All of the members of this team are clearly trying way too hard to make everyone laugh, and it might make them laugh, but it won’t make any viewer laugh.

Our last person, the guest host, Gus Johnson, is undeniably and clearly the funniest member of the entire video. His humor defies all. I’m not saying he is the funniest person on YouTube, he is very funny as it is, but he just knows what comedy is. He understands what makes people laugh and how to act it out perfectly in every sketch. You can tell how truly unfunny everyone appears, because he does not laugh at a single sketch the others perform for him. That’s a great look, when your guest doesn’t even laugh at you.

This video shows the power that a corporation has over YouTube. The “Smosh Pit” channel has over 5 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS. Gus Johnson has about 397K subscribers at the time of this article being posted. ‘Smosh Pit’ has the power to use however much money they need to make a funny video, and they can’t even do that. I am truly convinced that that is the least funny video I have ever seen on YouTube. No humor, with the exception of Gus Johnson, no creativity, with the exception of Gus Johnson, and the video is just plain boring, with the exception of Gus Johnson. If you must, check out this video just to see how bad and unfunny it truly is. However, I recommend to stay away from this video as much as you can.
