If you were a kid in the '90s, you probably wished you had a bunch of friends like the ones in your favorite cartoons like: Recess, The Powerpuff Girls and Codename: Kids Next Door. Actually, you still might — because even if we're all grown up now, we still have fond memories. And a lot of us even hang out on websites, talking about cartoons, or writing articles about them.
So it's a good thing that talented artist Pauline (a.k.a Punziella, a.k.a Muttonfudge) has given us the next best thing. Here's what some of them would look like, all grown up — just like us.
Gretchen and Spinelli from Recess
Codename: Kids Next Door
The Powerpuff Girls — Roller Derby Style
I can't get over that roller derby AU — I love the designs alone (look at the hair streaks!), but now I want to know all of the stories!
The Powerpuff Girls
Looks like straight-up high school this time. They'll kick its butt.
The Ashleys from Recess
I think my favorite part of this series is how even though they're older and the artist is clearly letting her own style shine, the original designs are so recognizable. Who the characters are stays the same, and there's just something nice about that. A big part of nostalgia is looking back and missing what you've lost, but series like these show that some things never change.
It's true for us too — because when will we stop loving cartoons? Probably never.
Raven and Starfire from Teen Titans
As always, thank you so much for reading. Remember that this talented artist is a human like you, giving us their work on their own time, for the love of the art and the characters. Rock on, and see you again real soon!
